Kindle fire-How do you like yours?

Among all of its features I mainly want to sync to my home AV system. I understand that it is a portal to Amazon downloads and am concerned about audio quality/sound reproduction.
Also, I guess I need to get a smart TV in order to stream movies from it since I don't otherwise have such a device.

Lastly, I've read that it is not Bluetooth compatible so it's useless in my car.

What’s your take?

Mine is sitting in a box on desk. I'll let you know after the weekend.

I have a HDMI line on the back of my TV that connects to my iPad/iPod/iPhone to watch movies that are on those devices.

Thanks SensorG. I'll look forward to it.

Can't wait to hear opinions on this...may pick one up for myself - or a Nook. We'll see.

I was thinking about a Nook for older relatives simply because they could take it into B&N if there were any problems with downloading, software, etc.

Older generation is more of a face-to-face problem solving lot than "send customer service an e-mail or live chat".

I got one this week and have just started using it. So far, so good. The picture quality is awesome. The data that you have in the cloud will only work on the Fire if you are connected wireless internet, so need to remember to save things to the device if you will not be somewhere that is connected (in car, doctor's office).
Offshore - just a suggestion about streaming movies - you can buy a blue ray dvd player for under $100 (cheaper after Thanksgiving) and stream Netflix from that. Or you can buy an Apple TV or Roku box for around that price, too. No need to spend the money on a new TV if you are satisfied with your old one. Personally, we have TIVO premiere with lifetime service and love it - streams netflix, blockbuster and Amazon.

Thanks
My rational: I need a TV so, as holiday sales grow near I’ll check prices of smart TVs vs. TVs AND a Roku type devices. If I can eliminate wires by having it all in one device I’m for it. Also, I may be able to eliminate my CD player. How long are CDs going to be around any way?

In terms of auto usage, it seems a bit limited even when compared to my Blackberry. It would be nice to sync music and podcasts into my car’s Bluetooth, hands free deal minus plugs but the Fire is apparently not capable nor is it GPS or Google Earth capable.
I welcome all advise, thanks

Rationale I mean!

i got one this week, and really like it
i'm an apple guy, and this is certainly no apple
it's not the zippiest interface, and it faces some user interface challenges
i feel like with a few software updates (that are bound to come) i'll be a lot happier with the device
what i really like about it, is the size. it's the perfect weight & with to hold in your hands at typing. if only the spell check worked better, i'd actually type on it more!

it's awesome to be able to watch tv & movies in bed... the display isn't HD like an ipad, but it's decent. i've found watching some video (on websites, not through hulu / netflix etc) can be a little choppy.

it's great for me... checking emails & message boards at work. it's more of a media / info consumption device in my eyes. i would never ever think of getting work done on it.

for $200 it seems like a steal to me... i'll let you know in a week if i'm still singing it's praises. :)

I have the original Nook Color and like it a lot. Of course, I rooted it and it's now a full Android tablet. Rooting is real easy to do, just Google it. We use it for everything--from games from the Android Market to playing movies and reading books. I like that it has a microSD slot, so it can be expanded.

I don't know much about the Fire. Can you use it to access the Android Market, or are you limited to the Amazon Market? Does it have an SD/microSD slot?

Nook Tablet is apparently hard to root - apparently the bootloader is locked, unlike the Nook Color... and the Kindle Fire doesn't allow for storage expansion (microSD card)... so if I can't get Google Apps and I can't shove a card with whatever I want, both of them can die in a fire. I'll find another Android tablet that doesn't try to lock me into someone's media monopoly (a prime reason I have a vast dislike for Apple products).

I own two Ipads and a 7" Samsung Tab. Picked up a Fire this week. I was skeptical given some of the reviews.

It is terrific. Browser is much faster than the DolphinHD on my Tab and slightly faster than Safari on my Ipad.

The text mode and indexing on Road and Track Magazine on the Fire is the best I have seen on any tablet including the Nook. In fact I have enjoyed reading mags on the Fire more than on the larger Ipad because of the text mde and superior indexing.

It is a keeper for me.

Thanks everyone. I now think I'm going to get them for my two daughters for Christmas.
