My 25yr old daughter bought her first home from a settlement she received and paid cash. The equipment was already in the home so she wanted to feel safe living on her own she contacted them in Feb. '11 and purchased it with a 3yr contract (dumb but that was their requirement). She had paid up 6mos service, thinking everything would be alright for her financially as she was working. Unfortunately that's not how life goes and she was thrown for a loop with fell a bit on hard times. She has paid all her other bills that are necessities (gas, lights, phone, car insurance and taxes). She gave up things that she can not afford. So this is where the ADT comes to point.
She owes them a bill, but is unable and has let them know what has happened to her. Today she gets home and the alarm is going off in her house. She calls ADT to let them know and they tell her that they activated the alarm in her house because she owes them money. She said that she wants to keep their service but one, has just went back to work and will try to catch up. They refused to turn the alarm off and it is beeping like crazy. She is very prone to migraines and has started giving her one. She told the rep on the phone that if they won't work with her to cancel her service and they tell her that they can start that process today and that it may take up to 30 days and it will continue to beep until then. I looked over the paper work and unless I'm missing it with my 45yr old eye sight, I do not see anything that states that if she doesn't pay they will sound the alarm until she makes a payment.
Is this something they can do?
I told her to go to the box and disco the service but she is afraid to doesn't want to get electrocuted. I am currently waiting on someone from their corporate office to call me back. I am hoping to get over there with a friend to see if we can disco it in the basement some how.
