Your Traditional Christmas Reuben Fixings

An inquiry from a friend: she has come across two recipes for how to make a reuben dip or other dish with corned beef & sauerkraut -- the idea being that these are clever new ways to serve reuben-style foods because people (probably) want to jazz up the same ol' reuben sandwich. For Christmas.

Is there a German connection here? Does anyone have a family tradition that reubens would be part of Christmas dinner? I could understand if it was a Super Bowl family tradition, but Christmas?

I'm pretty sure there is a whole sauerkraut and keilbasa tradition in the Polish line. I wonder if perhaps it's not connected to that instead.
