Bookstore Opening on Westwood

Isn't that the old A&P and later Allen Wharehouse address? If so, that's a HUGE building.

bookstore closing in the shopping center that used to have major magics. Owner is looking to unload bunch of books. Maybe this is where they are going to?

HF... no disrespect, but I didn't mean to "like" your post.... I did not know what the little "+" meant until I clicked and, alas, the deed was done. My lack-of-like stems from my concern that you may be referring to A Novel Idea, which is actually located in the Starlight Plaza (not sure if Major Magics was once housed in that area.) A Novel Idea is very similar to the new arrival on Westwood... but owned by a local bibliophile. Anyone know anything?

Checked out Ukazoo on westwood today. Used hardbacks were all $5.99 and paperbacks $3.49. The free press had a coupon for a free book, and by 3 get one free was an in store promo. My wife got 6 books (two of which were free (coupon and in store promo)for under $18.00 and I got three hardback books for less than $11.00 (one was free from the coupon). They had a pretty good selection of books and we bought a variety of genre. They also buy books back (only for between $.40 and a dollar usually) but beats throwing them out. I will definitely be going back.

Went to A Novel Idea today in hopes I could talk the crew there and get some books. It appears alreaddy shutdown. What little was left of the hollow shell was boxed up and no signs other than closing.

Maybe this new place will hire these fine employees.

There's an Ukazoo coupon in the Valpak today, too. Free book (no purchase necessary), 25% off games and puzzles, and 10% additional on buybacks are the coupons. guess I'll check this place out this weekend.

OK, we went there, it's neat, way different than we expected. I had the coupon for a free book, so, with buy 3 get 1 free, I got 9 books for $22. awesome.

Went today and was happily surprised. The amount of material was amazing. They have a huge selection including harder to find titles. Even 3-4 book shelves of just Stephen King. The cap on a book is $5.99 which seems reserved for hardback, and free coffee :)

Forgot to mention the staff there seemed knowledgeable and very friendly. They also have a kiosk where you can search the store inventory, which I've never seen at a used book store.

I didn't check the kids area but it was a separate room with a cute crawl space threw a painted tree between the main area and the kids section.

I went today as well and was impressed by the whole store. What looks like an unassuming building opened up into a neat, clean and well put-together shop. It felt unlike any used bookstore I have ever been in and my two year old daughter absolutely love the kids area. We were in there forever! There was time and attention spent in considering design. On top of used books, they also sell Melissa and Doug toys, which are quite popular.

As far as the book selection, I was quite placed with the selection-classic novels as well as the popular ones! The wife picked up some Jodi piccolt and I got a great version of Sinclais's The Jungle,

Can't wait to spend more time there.

Went to the store yesterday with coupon in hand. Very nice indeed. will definitely go back for some books to read on vacation.

That was a good Book AC, but required reading? I don't think any book should be required to read, forcing people to read others opinions on how life should be is sort of like indoctrination isn't it? I'm sure you would care if required reading included Atlas Shrugged or Bill OReileys Pinheads and Patriots.

I haven't read a physical book other than to my kids for almost a year. I read pretty much everything on the Kindle app on my iPad.

For text-heavy books, I agree, the Kindle or Kindle app is fine.

Sometimes, I like to take a field guide or field guides with me outside when studying nature, and I'm not ready yet to try replacing those actual books with a tablet in the field.

I also enjoy acquiring old, out-of-print nature-related books. Can't do that with a tablet.

A couple books I bought in February:

• Wolf Kahn's America - An Artist's Travels
• Artist's Journal Workshop - Creating Your Life in Words and Pictures

The second one is available for the Kindle, but I've not tried it on the Kindle. I prefer these visual-heavy books as books.

You right jr, thinking back, I do keep an Ohio fish identification book in my tackle when I go out fishing. Last place I want my iPad is on a small boat or at the pier.

AC: I did see some there right next to the sci-fi section. If you stand in front of where Douglas Adams is (pic above) look to your left and it's right there.

Kinda mixed in with comic trade paperbacks and such.

FYI Ukazoo is having a sidewalk sell this Fri/Sat/Sun all books $2 or less.

FYI, I rolled past Ukazoo today and the sidewalk sale consisted of about 8 small boxes of books. Good stuff inside though.
