I am surprised at how little (basically nothing) I have heard about this income tax renewal. In the past, there has been a concerted effort to knock it down, but it does't seem that much opposition exists this time. I am confused because we have seen a fairly significant reduction in services (trash, road repair, etc..) over the last 5 or so years. Although I realize taking away revenue will necessarily invite a reduction somewhere, I find it hard to believe people still think the politicians in this town are going to do the right thing all on their own.

It doesn't help that Mayor Bell is threatening to fire police the same as every other mayor before him. Really, they couldn't find a way to shift money to make the cuts in another department? Bullshit. Even if the .75% must go to public safety, removing that doesn't mean they can't take the replacement money from the General Fund. I will accept a reduction in park maintenance, for instance, to keep police on the streets.
(thx for moving this, jr)
