Buying an election

Why is it the left and "progressives" scream about Romney and money in politics but I didn't hear a peep about Marcy outspending Kucinich and buying this primary. Don't hear any smarmy parroting of John Stewart lines about the evil rich.

Our nation lost one of it's better reps to the mighty greenback yesterday.

According to the Blah, Kucinich spent more than Marcy, at least as of a couple of weeks ago:

"Miss Kaptur started the campaign with more than $700,000 to Mr. Kucinich's approximately $90,000, though he made up the difference.

By Feb. 15, Miss Kaptur had spent a total of $479,993 and had more than $422,000 on hand. Her campaign was largely funded by contributions from lobbyists and political action committees.

Mr. Kucinich's funding was drawn primarily from individual donations around the country. As of Feb. 15, he spent a total of $809,804 and still had $250,407 in his campaign account.

Both have since brought in thousands of dollars in additional contributions.

But it is important to note that Kucinich's support came mostly from individuals, which I respect more than Marcy's coming from PACs and lobbyists. I wonder if it might have anything to do with her new position as ranking Democrat on the Appropriations Committee? The only way out of this is federal financing of elections, which sitting members of Congress would never, ever agree to. So what's the solution?

Through redistricting Kucinich's support was mostly lost. Marcy knew this so I think she just played it conservative (no pun intended). Santorum was out spent in Ohio 4 to 1 by Romney and only won by 10,000 votes. In Michigan it was 2 to 1 and Romney won by 38,000. I think this money in campaigns is in need of serious reform.

Yeah well Citizens United established that a corporation is a person entitled to free speech... now if they're a person entitled to free speech, then they're also a person that can be fined for littering and arrested for murder. So until I see CEOs hauled out in handcuffs for the corporate person's wrongdoing, then they should be able to contribute to political campaigns. Again, I say unlimited donations from INDIVIDUAL HUMAN BEINGS to a political candidate (not a PAC or a general campaign committee). Let the candidates funnel that money back to the RNC or DNC or whatever, and let that be traced back to the candidate. Let the Koch brothers, Soros, whomever blow $10 million on a single candidate and let the record show that and that the candidate then turned around and gave that money to some party fund.
