so, I put on some shorts this afternoon and grilled out dinner.
it's now a few hours later and i have a crazy amount of bug bites on my legs.
clearly, this spring / summer is going to be a NIGHTMARE as far as bugs go.
I'm looking for your suggestions on ways to get rid of the biting bugs,
and also get your predictions for how bad it's going to get. :)

I have them on my windsheild already. If we go directly into Summer and bypass Spring, it won't be good.

Mild winter probably allowed more insects to survive. I just consider it more food for the birds.
My advice is to purchase the Kaufman Field Guide to Insects of North America and study the buggers.
Some of our backyard Mining Bees are up already, which is probably 10 to 14 days earlier than normal. Last Sunday, I saw a butterfly zip through our backyard, which I think it was the Eastern Comma. Turtles and snakes are out now. Lots of small, flying insects are hovering about. Of course, crocuses are blooming. It's a fine time of the year.
The upcoming weather forecast is a bit stunning for mid-March. It's not necessarily the fact that we hit 70-plus degrees today that is odd. It's the fact that we may reach these temps for the next six days too. That's amazing.
Today's (March 14) official high temp at Toledo Express airport hit 78 degrees, and it was not a record. The record high temp for today was 79 set in 1990.

Freakish. That's nice weather for May.
The ones I worry about, are the Asian beetles that look like Lady Bugs, biting little bastards that they are.
Our cat loves this time of year. He's a sick bastard too because he wears down whatever insect until it just dies of exhaustion due to an accumulation of paw stomps.
Anderson's has something you can attach to your leaf blower. Try dusting select areas to see if it helps. If I can spray to keep them down camping, I have to believe you could manage it at your home. Come to think of it I may stop out at Anderson's today after work.

We bought a conversion kit for our leaf blower years ago. Depending on what stage of the bug season it is, we can significantly decrease Mosquitos for 2 to 7 days. You can use organically-minded spray or chemicals, depending on what you are comfortable with. It's great.
Dang! I was looking forward to the usual two months of using neither furnace nor air conditioner. My evergreen hedges are releasing gobs of pollen right now. Happy St. Patrick's Day!

When walking my dog near the woods I've noticed a ton of bugs already. Especially swarms of nat-size critters so thick it looks like a floating black blob.
Curious how the mayflies will be this year :) The fish are gonna love it.
