Does anyone believe that Ms. Hancock/Mcconnel will actually serve one day in jail? Now she got some kind of sweetheart deal where she won't have to testify regarding one of the various crimes she has supposedly committed. My guess is that she will get one or two small fines, and have them both suspended, and maybe have her law liscense suspended for 30 days.

When I heard about her court appearances getting pushed back further and further, you could see the writing on the wall. Her political ties will set her free.
And where the hell was I when this happened?!
And this is the caliber of what the voters keep sending to hold office in lucas county.
I suppose the fellow that filed the complaint just wants the money back. If an agreement was reached for his nephews to get the money then I guess that would settle the matter. Would he have been better served if she went to prison without any chance of making restitution? At least this way there is the possibility of her earning the money to pay it back. Although I am not sure I would want to be her client. Also, if she is accused of something I think the law is that she isn't required to testify against herself. Although perhaps that is no longer true.
"At least this way there is the possibility of her earning the money to pay it back."
And the fact that she's demonstrated that the way she earns money is by fraud and theft that should be excused?
I dont care if she goes to jail or not, but she should be disbarred.
I agree, politics will keep this all swept under the rug. But what about the huge IRS bill? If she skates on that too, it gets pushed off on the people who DO pay taxes.
Actually, brady, according to the article, Huntington Bank is the one who will be reimbursing the 3 young men. (Presumably because they cashed the forged check.)
One would assume that Huntington will attempt to collect the money back from Karyn. Though in her financial state, who knows how possible that will be?
Isn't forgery a crime in and of itself, and independent of anyones' ability of paying for the check?
Faking a kidnapping is a felony. Aside from the theft of her clients' monies, she's a felon.
Ah but unconvicted she is an accused felon or an alleged felon. Personally, I find her to be an alleged lawyer.
Criminal conversion is yet another felony she will get a pass on, watch and see.
IMO she's getting off because she is a Ford appointee.
I think she should and will be disbarred.
I think she should and will face some criminal convictions, felony, probably not - but felonies get pled down to misdemeanors for people every day, regardless of title, race, or family ties. And she will face several civil suits and judgments as well (although bankruptcy can be her escape from those judgments).
Should she go to jail, probably not - the cells are so full now with violent felons, drug dealers and other more aggregious offenders, why should the space be taken up by Ms. Mcconell who obvioulsy has some mental issues to deal with, and can more fully compensate her victims out of jail.
She is bad for our city, our citizens and my profession as a whole, but we can't all be upstanding assholes like me.
The bar will pull her ticket. It just takes time. There certainly should be at least one "token" felony conviction, given the number of alleged forgeries she committed. She wont serve any time if she makes restitution and cooperates. As an FDIC insured financial institution, the bank has a legal duty to protect its depositors. This means that since the bank is now the "victim" (same as a robbery) and if it is not reimbursed it must file a criminal complaint, usually with the Feds. The Feds don't usually do much unless the amount is substantial. The bank can (and should) certainly file a local criminal complaint. Frankly her career is over. I'm thinking the good folks at her chruch might pass the hat to assist in making restitution. Maybe Dad will help financially? I was in the drive thru at a local bank last week and Ms. Mc Connell's bed rest must be over 'cause there she was in the next line driving her car.
