I love Jeep. Owned several. Always liked the design of the FC-150 and 170 and their versatility. I drove a 170 while working for a contractor many years ago. It was a hoot to drive.... But I gotta say that the one pictured above has to be the end result of the designers spending the day on Central Avenue getting crapped up then getting on the design boards. What were they thinking? By the way, it looks like the pics were taken at Woodlawn Cemetary. How appropriate...
that is sooo cooool. i would venture to guess a reaction to the VW minivan with the intention of maintaining the corporate identity in the design. bet the intention was to have some kind of built-on tent on the rear or side. do you have a picture of the passenger side? three doors on the driver side!! rear mini tail fins and bumper fins - excellent. thanks

As rch101 said, it's a variant of the "FC" line of Jeep vehicles. Called the Willy's FC-150 Van, it was designed by industrial/automotive designer Brooks Stevens. They made three of the examples pictured above. The collector community has been looking for them for years; very few leads exist.
Stevens had a museum/design facility outside Milwaukee that remained open until the 80's, and several photos of an FC-Van(of the three missing)exist. I'll load one in a few minutes.

Correction, the museum was open until 1999.
Tried to post the image but it's not happening.

Guilty by association, April first (April Fools Day) is the birthday of the AMC Gremlin.

I rode in a new Gremlin X (I think it was an X), with a 304cid and a 4bbl/4spd... I was scared. It was like riding in a dragster kinda. It wasn't much longer than it was wide. When he dumped the clutch it was all over the road and I had to hang on for dear life and that was no April Fool... But it was a pure ugly car...
i can't figure out how the hell you'd get in and out of that beast but damnit i want one and i want one right now!

That van is so ugly it's awesome.
So was this supposed to be their "answer" to the VW bus? Although to be honest, was the VW bus even in existence at that time?
