Toledo Zoo released the concert schedule at the amphitheatre over the summer. It's a hell of a lineup, especially if you like classic rock:
June 27th: Sara MacLaughlin
July 6th: Barenaked Ladies (headliner), with Blues Traveller, Big Head Todd & the Monsters, and Cracker
July 11th: Santana
July 31st: Crosby, Stills, and Nash
August 14th: Train
August 15th: Dukes of September Rhythm Review (Donald Fagan, Boz Scaggs, and Michael McDonald)
----------
According to the Blade, there isn't a ticket priced over $80 at any of these shows. That's pretty good considering the quality of the acts. The "Dukes of September" has me intrigued--there's a lot of music wrapped up in those three guys. Hopefully they play their hits that people come to listen to and not just new stuff. And Santana is always good. The Barenaked Ladies (w/ supporting artists) looks good too.
There are a lot of things to rag on Toledo about. This isn't one of 'em. This is great. Every once in a while, we have a thread going about "Party In the Park" and the "great" concerts (use that term loosely) that used to come downtown. Well, it's not downtown anymore, it's at the zoo. Good job!
It's interesting to think about the age demographic they are trying to reach with this line up. Personally, I have no interest in seeing any of these shows, but I suspect my parents would love the line up.
The Barenaked Ladies line up is a total time warp for me.
Members were supposed to get an email with an advanced code to order tickets starting tomorrow. I never got one. Anyone? I want to get some Sarah tickets for the wife.
I'm lovin' this year's lineup, even if it's sadly lacking Weird Al. I might bust the bank if I went to all of the shows I want to (McLaughlin, BNL, Santana).
Very happy with the Zoo concert lineup this year.
There are at least 3 of the concerts that I'm considering buying tickets for. (Sarah McLachlan, BNL, Train)
I've seen BNL in concert 4 times already, including the show at the Zoo a few years ago. I'm intrigued by the other acts that will be appearing with them though - the BNL shows I've attended before haven't really had any well-known opening acts.
My wife was disappointed there were no country acts in the mix…
The country acts are all booked at the Huntington Center. ;)
Dude.. I can't believe you left off the Fresh Beat Band on August 30th :o)
Fresh Beat Band? Did I? Oh drat..... :)
I last saw Blues Traveler when John Popper was fat--1995, right at their peak. BNL are always great.
I like some current stuff and almost anything from the rock and roll past (kind of a music omnivore). Personally don't have any use for Sarah MacLauglin--she puts me to sleep--, but I can see how a lot of people like her.
The amazing thing to me are the ticket prices. I paid well over $100 a ticket to see Santana in Vegas (where it's easy to blow a lot of cash, but I digress) a couple years ago. Look at the prices at Huntington Center shows. These shows, it looks like $60 will get you up front for most of the dates. Pretty good deal.
Why could the zoo not find another director after Sam Szor left? I miss the free concerts with local talent.
The prices for these concerts might be great for younger folks but would break the bank in this household.
My kids are a couple of years past Fresh Beat Band demographic (in 2nd and 3rd grade), but I bet they'd love to see Train. They also like some of the songs by the opening act - Andy Grammer. (I think his music has been on some Disney Channel shows.)
Doesn't mean I'm going to buy them tickets, of course. I'm just saying that they would want to go if they had the opportunity.
P.S. Compared to the going rate for concerts these days, I think the ticket prices are pretty reasonable.
Fresh Beat Band - Nick early presale code: BEATS. Ordered my tix this morning. Thanks Google :)
I didn't get my zoo email either!! I want to get tix for BNL and Train too.
1998 called. It wants it's concert series lineup back.
ILOVEMYZOO is the code. Enjoy TT
Disappointing acts this year. BOO-MY-ZOO is my code
I have seen some excellent shows over the years at the Zoo, including Paul Simon and Chicago, as well as the free concert series "Music Under the Stars." None of the above acts particularly excites me, but hey: there is always next year, and it is always good for the area to have nationally touring acts and shows come to Toledo.
In for BNL and Train. Considering Sara MacLaughlin. I think concert series looks great.
I wonder if Sara MacLaughlin going to have a bunch of abused animals on stage when she sings that god awful song from her commercial?
Big Head Todd is awesome, can't wait for that line-up.
CSN is coming again? I like 'em, but they are here about every year.
i love BNL but they are a much different band without steven page - he went off (fired/quit?) to lead an R rated life (or worse/better) while the band remained PG-13. his songs, voice, and stage theatrics are a big part of the core of what BNL was.
radio 2 canada will be happy with the line-up this year.
I do agree that BNL is very different without Steven Page. Saw several BNL shows back in the day, and went to the Page-less show a few years ago at the Zoo.
Still enjoyable, but very different.
(Ed was always my favorite anyhow, so thankfully he didn't leave.) :)
Two Woodstock acts in the same year? Count me in for both! And Blues Traveler has always impressed me with their shows, but they've always been smallish venues (think along the lines of a slightly larger Main Event, 800 or so people). I'm interested in seeing if their energy level is the same in a big open venue like the zoo.
I feel old, Sara MacLaughlin is considered classic rock lol.
A couple years back I was tuning around the radio and heard Nirvana or Red Hot Chili Peppers only to find out it was on an oldies station.
Does look like a nice line-up.
Don't call it a comeback!

Hi bitches!!!!
I was hoping people would take the lead when I introduced the correct spelling above, but alas no one noticed. :(
Thought we'd never see you around these parts again. LOL
He must of been in lurker mode.
god, no thanks. send him back to the peanut gallery
Sara McLachan should be about a 95% female crowd with multiple "switch hitters"
There is an Easter/Ryan/Resurrection joke that could be made here, but I can't make it work. Also, I probably shouldn't go there.
Welcome back, Ryan.
Just came by to see if anyone was having problems with getting tix yesterday online. I was for some reason. Looks like the same old posts, just different dates.
Smell ya latahs, hatahs.
