Yesterday, (Monday) approximately a one block section of Eleanor avenue was closed for iinstallation of some gas lines. It was from Commonwealth, west about one block.
What I don't understand is they had a TDP cruiser at each end blocking traffic. At the east end I could see the officer sitting in the cruiser. I'm not certain if an officer was in the one on the other end.
Is this an efficient use of city money? Pay 1 or possibly 2 officers to sit for untold hours in their cruiser to block traffic? Why not just put up "road closed" signs?

That's a good question. I saw the police officer just literally sitting in her car. We live about 6 houses down from that corner and boy was traffic horrible! People flying down commonwealth stirring up all the dust that's in the roads from the construction they are doing on hagley.
and yes again our tax dollars are going to an officer to sit and block traffic. It was closed yesterday as well and I had to go all sorts around the block to get to my house on commonwealth. Also- Why don't they start a project and finish it and then move on to another??
Stooks, because that would make too much sense. Remember this is the government you're dealing with, common sense is frowned upon.

LOL
I don't understand it they are tearing up the road in about 4 spots that I saw driving home yesterday. It's so dusty at our house. EVERYTHING outside is just covered in layers of dust because of this.
Argh!
My guess is that the 'gas line' portion of your original post is the reason for the extra measures. It may seem like overkill, but those precautions usually stem from past experience with idiots.

There were TARTA buses coming down my street yesterday which made it sound like it was thundering out....Wish they could just shut the whole area down to non-residents and just finish it quicker..
