wouldn't it be easier to stand at a highway exit ramp with a cardboard sign

I'd like to think that these type of job expos and career fairs are beneficial, but I've been to more than my share and I've never gotten so much as a lead from them. :( Most of the time, it's "thanks, here's an application, we'll take your resume and thanks for stopping". I had one recruiter person tell me that their company didn't actually have openings available but they wanted to "put a good face out there for people".

I hope this particular expo is different, but that's just been my experience.

How in the world has this not been promoted more? Even if it is just a feel-good measure, people need to know about it for there to be an impact. Have I just been blind to the coverage?

I hope it's a productive expo. I went to one several years back and it was mostly filled with military recruiters, and companies giving out information about the company but not necessarily hiring, or only part time seasonal.

We could use a real career oriented job fair, with representation from some of the big companies around here: O-C, O-I, Jeep, First Solar, etc. With less, you can work for 2 months making gift baskets part time, type jobs.

Then again if someone has no job something > nothing.

MTR: I agree. That's why I like TT. People tell me what they think.

To answer your question. We started promoting this fairly late, as you observed. So, I'm trying to overcome that deficit by posting here, Facebook and Twitter, etc.

I have seen an ad in the The Blade for it, though.

No, if you're job hunting send me a message I'm hiring again and it's driving me crazy. Technology position, engineer with wifi/wimax/LTE experience either personal or professional and they must speak spanish.
