WTF water bill payment...rant

It is after hours, I want to pay my water bill. The automated system and I have been fighting for well over 20 mins now.

*First it doesn't even register my phone number right.
*I give up getting my phone number right and just accept the wrong number.
*It then does nothing after I accept the bad number...resulting in me having to hang up and start again.
*Yet again forced to use a bad number because the machine is spitting out numbers I can confirm I didn't type.
*I get to my account # part of the system and the thing still won't get my numbers right that I can confirm I am typing in right....
*I give up - I'm going to try paying while at work...god help me.

Frickin annoying. This city can't even get taking my money right.

Can you pay online?

Grrrr .... sorry about your bad experience. It does make one wonder how many financial problems could be solved if various city entities could collect a proper payment in a timely manner. :-(

If you are trying to do this from a cell, go see if there's an option to set your tones to "long" instead of "short"

I've paid my water bill online before.

The Utilities Administration website

On the page it says click here to pay your bill online

Water bill payment has always been a thorn in my side. Over a year ago, I decided to divide up my typical water bill and automatically send them a portion every time I get paid, which is twice a month.

Their bill payment system is still in the dark ages. Very annoying. But at least I no longer have to think about it.

The water department is by far the most difficult utility to deal with. I have never had less than a 15 minute wait to speak to someone on the telephone. And when you need to change service and get a final reading, it can take up to a month. You don't get that kind of service from Columbia Gas or Toledo Edison.

They're all busy trying to keep the water plant's pumps from exploding by patching them up with bailing wire, bubblegum, duct tape, JB Weld, and whatever other crap (instead of actually taking the money and doing routine upgrades, apparently).

This problem is found anytime you're dealing with a monopoly.

Division of Water Treatment doesn't handle bills or meter readings. Division of Water Distribution takes care of the meter readings, and Utilities Administration takes care of your billing. They have nothing to do with water treatment or water reclamation.
