Child Care Services Levy Nov 2012

Just had an interesting robo call. Long story short, there is going to be a levy in Lucas county this coming November to raise funds for Child care services. The past two years the state and I believe also federal funding has been cut severely, several places around Ohio have closed due to this. The rest are struggling, and the expenses to maintain these facilities are high.

Note: I work for a Child Care service company so have seen and felt these cutbacks. Glad to see people outside of the Child services system trying to raise awareness and proposed this.

?? I pay cash for my child care. You want me to pay for other people's child care??? Are you serious?

Better the moms stay on welfare and be home with the kids...

I am not in support of this. I pay over $500 a month for childcare for my two children and I don't want my taxes to pay for anyone else, as I cannot afford to pay more in taxes.

I suppose it depends on which one costs more.

Once again a business doesn't understand economics, cutbacks, budgeting, spending, how to actually run a business, yada yada yada, and asks for a bailout from the taxpayers. Unfreakingbelieveable!!

I'm trying to get more info. But I don't believe this is for baby sitters and stuff. Believe it's more for group homes and places that take care of mentally handicap kids, wards of the state, and such.

Funny - I heard a commercial for the Children Services Board the other day and wondered if it was time for their levy renewal. It seems they only advertise when they have a levy coming up.

What a lot of people don't realize is that CSB has two levies. We approved their 1.4 mill levy last year and this year their 1.0 mill should be on the ballot (unless they change the amount by doing a replacement instead of a renewal).

They collect about $19 million a year in property taxes - more than what the general fund for the County gets - and that funds the entire county.

Regardless, Lucas County voters have never turned down one of their levy requests 'for the children.' However, if they're doing phone calls, perhaps they're worried this year?

I'll vote against it.
But then it will just keep coming back until we give up or forget, like COSI.

That's eye-opening.

In any event, voters had their chance to say "no more" with the 3/4% tax and...of course...that sailed right on through....cha-ching!

Anybody thinking this levy will go down to defeat is fooling themselves.

What do you expect? It's a property tax, not a sales tax, an income tax or a welfare benefits tax. Our property taxes are too high already, and now the government wants more - and more, and more. Right up to the time when there is no more.

I'm voting NO!, and I plan to join ACORN so I can vote more than once.

No. No. No. I have a very small house and garage on a small plot of land and my property taxes are already almost 2000.00 a year. Way way way too high already. Vote NO on every new tax and vote NO on COSI if it ever comes up again. Lucas county needs to find ways for us to pay these outrageous bills before they try to impose more on us.
When my kids were small I paid my own child care. Imagine that.. paying my own child care so I could work and not expect others to pay for my children.

This proposed renewal levy isn't more taxes. It is a continuation of a tax levy already in place.

I don't have a dog in this fight but I think Children's Services Board is a needed service in our community.

jackie - it may be a continuation of a levy already in place but that doesn't mean it's ok. If you feel so strongly about charity, then pay it on your own will. These tax levies need to be voted down to allow people to give of their own free will instead of forced charity.

So children should pay for the sins of their parents? I think not.

Okay jackie, if you aren't in agreement then do as dell_diva suggests and donate your own money to the cause. Donate your time and effort as well if it pleases you.

Just don't donate my money. You didn't earn it. You have no right to it. Keep your hands off my money and property.

Get it?

I believe we have a responsibility to help our fellow man and I'm trying raise a family that respects helping others.

Matter of fact I might not even complain about the 20 bucks a week out of my check that would go to pay for effective anti-poverty programs and fixing education/making secondary school cheaper but none of the programs we have at then Federal level are making a difference.

Unfortunately, this levy likely will pass. "It's for the children" seems to result in voting booth victories.
