WTOL Web Site

Looks like WTOL has changed their URL to http://www.toledonewsnow.com/ to accommodate a merge with WUPW Fox. They must be going to just one site which makes sense. I know several people that were at Fox and they said basically everyone but sales got the boot.

Still, WTOL has the best news site in northwest Ohio.

Sorry I don't know anything about this. WUPW is merging with WTOL? what will the main network be? FOX or CBS?

Sharing resources including news staff. I knew a few of the people whose jobs were eliminated due to consolidation. Too bad, but inevitable

Who is the female anchor on at 10pm with Jerry Anderson? Whoa.

Raycom bought WUPW using a shell company called "American Spirit." Raycom owns WTOL. The FCC Duopoly restriction apparently doesn't apply to these guys. Although they are required by law to maintain separate on air presences, the last actual WUPW news broadcast from Four Seagate was Friday night. Saturday, the WUPW news originated from WTOL, with Jerry Anderson anchoring the same exact news on the same exact set (but with the WUPW logo on the screen). The "shared services" agreement was signed by Paul McTear, of Raycom. Most WUPW folks are gone. Even salespeople. A few got picked up by WTOL. The rest fled in advance. Fortunately there was some severance compensation for those who were not favored by "American Spirit" or Bob Chirdon.
To answer the question more directly, WTOL is a CBS affiliate who is running a Fox affliliate out of some new cubicles in the WTOL facility, with a brand new microwave unit to bounce the "WUPW" signal produced or aired by WTOL to the existing WUPW tower. Four Seagate Fox studio is empty as of the weekend.

Makes me wonder if Laura Emerson knew what was in the cards, and that was why she decided to leave for Kentucky? (Although I do remember that when WUPW initially began their newscasts in the early 90's with Laura, they had a similar deal with WTOL to share news production...)

I just went to the new website, and it sure looks odd. No station logos or any type of real "brand" that I see. It's like they're ripping a page out of channel 24's playbook. Good luck with that!

Even though I usually watch channel 13, I would sometimes watch channel 36 news at 10. It looks to me like none of their reporters made it to the new lineup...

Laura and her husband are very involved with horses. While I am sure that she had some idea what was coming around the pike, I think that she was ready for a move, and that Kentucky made sense for their interests. If I recall correctly, she had been on air on the same station, at the same desk, longer than any other Toledo anchor.

They did have an arrangement with WTOL. They shared resources and Larry Whatley. :D

I wish that I had been able to go to Fricker's Friday night for the "wrap party" after that last news broadcast. I had a lot of friends there. It all goes back to when Larry Bloom started WUPW as a UP station in the 80s.

Loads fine for me.

I like the site. The ads are not obtrusive and the logic of the layout and sub pages works. All of WUPW re-directs to this site now.

MattL that would be Emilie Voss. She is eye candy a bit, but Mojgan Sherkat makes me melt :O)

Just another potential sexual harassment suite for Jerry Anderson…

WHOA! I'm out the loop on that one. Sexual harassment on him? when was this?

Sorry, my tense was wrong. I said “potential”…I have no idea is there has ever been lawsuit against him. But as a lifelong Toledo residence, I will say Anderson has a bit of a reputation as someone who likes the ladies…
