Drain service recommendation?

It's that time again... my shower filled up with funky looking water. This has happened a few times since we've lived in this house and each time we had a friend of a friend that worked for Roto Rooter come out and and run a snake through the drain, off the clock. Unfortunately our guy quit (maybe it was dealing with our people's waste water that turned him off?) and now we're stuck paying full price.

Anybody have any suggestions/experiences as far as pricing and customer service?

Buy your own snake, it will pay for itself many times over.

If you are inclined, a snake can be a good idea. I have one for smaller, shorter drains. When I need a power snake, or for a longer drain, I have asked for Karl at Rooter Pro for nearly 20 years. He worked for interior channel (sister company) so I met him when I had my basement waterproofed more than 20 years ago. Never free, always fair. (And the drain is running soon after he arrives.)

Mike at Ram Rooter, 419-475-5231. He's been helping us for years. Not free, but good, reliable service. Maybe $60 or $75 to unclog our tree-root-filled sewer drain. We always seem to need him on a holiday weekend, so maybe his prices for normal hours are lower?

A second tip of the cap for Ram Rooter, who I used for years in my old businesses. Fast service, fair prices, and quality work.

I used Action Sewer... they were fast, extremely friendly and very reasonable... they took the time to correctly clean my main drain (over an hour to get all of the roots) and charged what I considered an incredibly low price... I had a different company out a year prior and they charged double plus the roots returned...

If Karl's the one I'm thinking of, then yes he is very good. Justread, does he look just like this guy:

Called Mike at Ram Rooter.

Started by renting a drain auger from Home Depot. It worked great and ripped out a ton of roots; unfortunately my tub is still clogged so it's farther up the line. Adding together the rental and Mike's estimate I'm still way under what Roto Rooter would have charged.

idinspired, Do you have a silver maple tree near your house? If so, that just might be the source of roots in the sewer pipe. Running an auger through the pipe will be a "band-aid approach" to the problem. You'll be better off if you have that silver maple cut down and stump ground up, if you have one of those trees.

Not only do I have a silver maple in my yard, I have 3 of them. All of them are monsters too. I'd consider cutting one down but we don't have the cash right now.

Mike was great! In and out and a fraction of what Roto Rooter charges. Two thumbs up! Thanks for the recommendations.

Can MIke from Ram Rooter do a video inspection of an underground drainage line? I think I may have a broken waste water line and just wondering if he can do that since he comes so highly recommended.

Mike didn't seem like the type that would have video inspection equipment but it's a possibility. Doesn't hurt to ask!
