Need some floral advice

our church is looking to give some carnations to moms on Mothers day. we'd need 5-6 dozen. I was quoted a rate of $66 for 5 dozen. Does $13.20/doz sound a little high for just plain carnations?

Anyone have any other ideas?

Call around. Flower shops in places like Kroger tend to be much less expensive than somewhere likes Ken's Flower Shop. Prices are likely a little inflated due to the holiday - I'd imagine Mother's Day is second only to Valentines in terms of flowers purchased.

Have you checked the prices at Costco? They have flowers there, and I'm almost positive that I've seen carnations. Never paid attention to how much they cost though.

Heck, even Kroger carries carnations and might have a better price.

It's at least worth a call to double check.

I'm not sure what the going rate for carnations is these days. But over $1 per stem seems pricey - I recall doing fundraisers in school where we could send a carnation to someone for $1, and that was with a fundraising profit built in above the cost.

Ooh...idinspired has a point, flower prices are typically inflated around Mother's Day.

Buy a nice live hanging basket or big pot of annuals. Same price or cheaper and last till fall.

Sensor read the original post and you will see why that is a dumb suggestion.

Billy - Sam's Club has bulk carnations. 100 stems for $49.88. If you order on the website by May 7th, they will be delivered in time for Mother's Day.

Here's the link:

thanks Mom2 I'll see if anyone is a member. I belong to Costco, so I'll call them as well.

idinspired - Kroger IS who quoted me that price.

My apologies for not reading the question close enough. I’ve been looking around for a nice basket of annuals for my mom and it was forefront on my mind.

If you have a venders license you can buy from Denver Wholesale FLorist (Toledo Florist Exchange) downtown Toledo.

It's mother day though and prices do go way up.

Sam's Club used to offer Free membership to members of the clergy, you might want to check into that. Also, it never hurts to ask for donations, they can always write off anything they give to churches.

called another kroger and their price was $36!! so Miracle mile is $36 and Lambertville is $66?

I emailed L-ville's cust svc site and asked WTF...

MMile pointed out that they sell small carnation boquets with 7 flowers in them 3 for $12 every day. 9 boquets would get me 63 flowers for $36 bucks... dont know what L-ville was thinking...
