I was driving by Airport Hwy and Byrne a couple of days ago and noticed an old lady mowing the lawn of the cemetery on the corner there (not sure of the name). It looked like she was only doing the area around a couple of plots as she had an old beat up mower that you push. The rest of the cemetery had grass and weeds at least a foot and a half high on it. Sign of the Times? The scene crept me out.
I was wondering if anyone else has cemetery maintenance issues? And who polices them?
Cemetery Maintenance

I always thought cemetery's were maintained by private companies? Shouldn't be a "sign of the times" if the maintenance is paid for right?

You would think upso - but the way people are miss-appropriating funds.... Just seemed odd to me.

If the Cemetery is full or almost full they don't have a lot of money coming in, so Cemeteries tend to start to decline in up keep, since many don't do planning for up keep after the money stops coming in.
For what a small plot of land runs ($$$), they should be required to set some aside in a trust. It wouldn’t cost very much to have weekly lawn maintenance/winter shoveling.
I thought it works as a sort of annuity towards maintenance?

I belive it is called Maplewood Cemetery and it is Toledo owned. No excuse for it not to be maintained. Every year one of the News stations picks up a story of the sorry state of one of the Toledo owned cemeteries.
Toledo's cemeteries are maintained by the Parks & Foresty Dept. and guess who is the commissioner?
Well, that department apparently doesn't respect the time, generosity, or property of the living....so why would we think that they would respect the dead (or their families)?
