Clinics for 24 hr. pet emergency

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone is familiar with the clinic over on Central Ave. Any other 24 hr.clinics around the Toledo area for future reference?

Sometimes serious pet issues come up after normal vet hours.

Thanks,
Lynn

We've always had very good experiences with the Central Avenue clinic.

I've only ever heard of the Central Ave. one. I've heard they are good, but $$$$$$$$$$.

I have used the one on Central Ave. on a couple of occasions. They aren't exactly inexpensive. Last summer when my older dog suddenly collapsed we took him there. After determining that he had some type of growth in his abdomen and likely couldn't survive surgery, (he was 14) it cost just over $200 to have him euthanized and cremated.

We went there one night when our dog split open her leg at 10 pm. They stapled her up until we could get to the regular vet the next day. Not cheap, but when you absolutely need help they are good.

Agreed: very good vets, rather pricey, but in emergencies you just have to deal with it. They worked miracles on one of our dogs who got burnt by soup that spilled straight from the stove.

I have used the W. Central animal hospital 4 times. They do good work, but you will pay atleast 3 times what you would at a regular vet. 24 hour service comes at a price I guess. Review their proposed services carefully. On my last visit, I was able to refuse about $300 worth of unneeded services.

The Central Ave clinic saved my dog's life. Our Pom/Sheltie mix had a benign spleen tumor (unknwn to us) rupture at 6:00 pm on a Friday. Massive internal bleeding. He collapsed in the kitchen just as we were heading out to dinner. If it had been five minutes later we would have come home to a dead dog on the kitchen floor.

Long story short - we got him to the clinic in time. Expensive surgery to remove the spleen, with no guarantee of the outcome because if it was cancerous it would be euthanasia on the table. Later pathology confirmed it was benign and he was good as new. It was expensive - for sure. We put it on the credit card at the time of service. But whadda ya do? No way was I not going to try.

Appreciate the information. A friend of mine will be moving to Toledo soon and wanted to know what services will be available for her elderly cat, if need be.

Thanks again,
Lynn

The Central Avenue clinic is great. Our family has been taking our pets there for as long as I can remember. You can't beat the quality of service when your pet has an emergency.

I agree with all the praise. Yes, they're expensive -- just as emergency room care is for humans. The few times I've used the Central Avenue clinic for our pets, I would have paid twice what they charged me just to get our beloved animals the necessary emergency medical treatment.

And yes, I believe they are the only ER animal clinic in the area.

And, finally, I've also called them on occasion, for help trying to figure out if various situations constituted an emergency and, a few times, just for some after-hours, general "sick pet" advice. They've never been anything less than helpful, and never tried to strong-arm me into bringing the animal in for examination.

Expensive? Yup. Worth it? Absolutely.
