Found out today that a friend is applying to be a server at Grumpy's. (She's currently a server at another local restaurant but only works evenings and weekends there.)
She's a super hard-worker - I'll PM her name to you, if you're interested in looking at someone who comes highly recommended. :)

Nice of you to help a friend, but sounds like a bad mix since isn't Grumpy's only open during the day, and she only works nights?

Actually, she's looking for a 2nd job, so Grumpy's hours would be perfect because the other place is only open evenings & weekends. Wouldn't need to worry about being asked to work both places at the same time. :)

I should say, we are always looking for talented people, so even though we aren't hiring now, doesn't mean we won't be in the near future.

Don't know if I ever gave an update on this, but she's working at Star Diner now.

I kind of wondered the same thing - we eat breakfast there with the family almost every weekend.
Food is good, most of the locations seem to stay pretty busy. Been waited on by some of the same servers for years. If it was a bad place to work, you'd think the turnover would be higher.
In fairness, has HockeyFan every not had a negative comment on something? So, I’d take his reaction with a grain of salt…
I like the Star Diner - food is good, prices reasonable for the big portions. The view is bonus…
Agreed, Star Diner has hands down the best breakfast in town. My sister has a masters in dietetics (nutrition), and she has long said that Star Diner is always her first choice for breakfast in Toledo.
Lol. I am guessing that the vast majority of customers did not choose the Star Diner based on a conversation with their dietician. As many others have said, though, the food is good and the portions are big. So are the breasts...of chicken, you pervs.

Nothing like eggs and legs in the morning or as my wife calls it grits and (you get the idea).
The family and I eat there once per month or so.

They have the best french toast.
I haven't quite figured out all of the ingredients that make it taste so good. However, through trial and error, I've been able to figure out that one of them is nutmeg.
Meh - I am starting to get old, and to me the servers at Star Diner look more like children than attractive women. Still, excellent food, generous portions, and the service is solid.

Just stating that
a) a woman
b) who is very conscious of the food she eats (and therefore, very picky)
is a fan. Anyone who disparages the place has probably never eaten there. Excellent food, great portion sizes, and low price. What's not to like?
I almost apologized for the prolonged topic hijack, then realized this is a rare occasion where a thread's original post has pretty much been resolved. So, carry on!
Yes, I would definitely have to say that my interest in Star Diner is definitely limited to the food as well. :)
(Well, that and the fact that some of our regular servers are familiar enough with us that they have a fresh iced tea at the table for me before I've even finished the first one.)

Hey, I can't find the thread where I said I would be in today, but I went and had a garbage salad and it's great! I'm gonna go eat the leftovers right now! OK, went back and got a burger, bacon, bleu cheese, onion, tomato, mayo, yum. Huge and juicy and the meat tastes great! So good. Grumpy's is going to be our first go-to place if you're open when we're hungry, lots more to try on that menu! :)
I'm on vacation this coming week, but it's a stay-at-home-and-work-on-projects "vacation," so we're not going anywhere. Still, I have scheduled time for a few non-work things and one of them is lunch at Grumpy's!
I am ridiculously excited about finally trying the Garbage Salad!

Wow. Just wow! It generally takes me a while to get around to trying what TTalkers are raving about, but I am never disappointed when I do. The Garbage Salad was all I expected and more.
But more than that, the place is just so cool and the people so friendly. I was very impressed and can't wait to go back! I'm already thinking of family members to bring in when they're home for the holidays...
So nice to meet you today, upso! Now that's TWO posters I've met in person. Some of you really DO exist! :)
