Where to get kitchen knives sharpened?

Among the many geek hats I wear, a food geek is one. I have a nice set of J.A Henckles that I've had for years. I sharpen with an electric Chef Choice, but they're in need of a professional sharpening. My angle grinder works fine for my mowers, but want something a little more delicate for my kitchen blades. Any recommendations? Spring Meadows area preferred. Oh, by the way, I'll be on the number one roller coaster in the world Saturday!

I think Jo-Ann Fabrics locations have knife/scissor sharpening once a month or so?

Michigan Saw on Alexis in Sylvania was recommended to me by a culinary friend. Haven't tried them out yet, but I do respect this friends judgment.

I think the Kroger at Spring Meadows sharpens knives.

Michigan Saw, I forgot about that place. I'll call them tomorrow.

My old neighborhood outside Chicago still has a knife sharpener who goes street-by-street ringing a bell. Anyone who's home goes out to meet him. My cousin ran half a block with an armful of scissors one time, so as not to miss him!

It's got me thinking, couldn't someone do the same in Toledo? Stroll around the neighborhoods offering a high-quailty service on the spot? ;-)

Whoa! Running with scissors?

Its not a bad idea if you include garden tools such as saws, spades, pruners and mower blades. Its been two years since I've found someone who would sharpen my shovels. He quit doing it. To me a sharp shovel and a sharp pair of Felco F-7's is absolutely essential.

Go to Harbor Freight and pick up a cheap angle-grinder... then you can sharpen your shovel any time you like.

I missed out on getting my knives sharpened before Thanksgiving. I just dropped them off at The Kitchen Store on Reynolds Road. If not for their ad in the Blade, I wouldn't have known they offer the service. I even called the 2 cookware stores at Franklin Park mall and they had "no idea" who could sharpen knives in town. Looks like they charge $4.50 per knife.

Doesn't that remaining Janney's place on Secor sharpen knives? I recall seeing some sort of sign while I was in there getting window screens repaired. (I asked if they sharpened the new ceramic knives, and they said no.)
