COPS coming to Toledo!

http://www.toledoblade.com/Police-Fire/2012/05/10/Toledo-police-force-gets-camera-ready.html

I know I shouldn't be excited about this, but I am! :)

Well for a while the citizens will be safe. I'll bet the cops won't pass an accident to get a Chinese take out order, as has happened before.

The north end hasn't had such a wonderful opportunity to represent Toledo to the nation since the riots. Hurray.

I don't think this is anything to be proud of...

One wonders how much they're going to spend on replacing them when people start playing sniper on them. Or perhaps going to the simple expedient of cutting the poles they're mounted on down. Or spraypainting the lenses.

In fact I wonder why there haven't been that many cases of vandalism of the fucking red light/speeding cameras. I'd die laughing if someone managed to get a "smash mob" together and took out a large number of them in one night.

This Big Brother shit has got to stop.

I think most reality TV should end in jail time for the participants.

Great stuff! Where are Solleks and Partner in all of this? Any chance I could get a temporary job as a consultant?

Really dell_diva? Why not?

The show has been done in 140 US cities, Hong Kong, London and the former Soviet Union. I don't think all those cities are hanging their heads in shame over it and as a regular viewer I can't think of any episode that made a cop or a community look bad. I saw a few that made me laugh at the cops but not serious embarassment.

I'm not saying it makes me swell with pride but it should be a nice opportunity for Toledo to get some positive press and a lot of fun for the local citizens.

Upso, I know how much you love this show. I can't imagine how excited you must be.

No, thought it was more of the surveillance camera shit. Don't like to give clicks to The Blah if I can avoid it.

... Okay, well then, watch the crime rate in Toledo drop for 8 weeks. Also remind me to get myself a new police scanner and a vidcam I can keep in my glove box in case I need to record the dynamic duo of TPD + FOX personnel being huge douchebags to ordinary citizens.

Hey! For me and the hub its popcorn night. Some pretty funny stuff. Over the last few years though we have come away with the realization that its nearly all stupid, low level, drug related crime. In a lot of it the cops should have just turned a blind eye. As its portayed in the show, its become a lot of what I judged to be, unnecessary arrests. I'm eager to see if the pattern holds in Toledo.

Its probably the best advertisement there is about why should give up on the war on drugs.

8 weeks of enforcement up, crime rate down.

What kind of popcorn do you eat? That microwave garbage, or the real pop it in a pan stuff?

Only microwave garbage - Uncle Willy's from Andersons - goes with Cops.

Really?

Yes, that is how I want my city to be nationally known... for the thugs, druggies, prostitutes, drunks, etc.

I wonder how many people I might actually know that get arrested. When I had business in Toledo Muni or Common Pleas court it was not unusual to see a neighbor or an aquaintance waiting to make a court appearance as an invited guest. There were more than a few red faces. But from what I've seen those getting arrested on Cops don't get embarassed about anything.

"also set the cameras ... recorded city of toledo workers, screwing off, talking on the phone for at least 30 mins, numerous bathroom trips, and the kicker is that they slept on benches in the rink when they were supposed to be working. 3 times in one day they layed out and slept. For 45 minutes after they ate their lunch. I didn't do anything with the tapes because I didn't want to cause trouble" -- from the Hockey League thread

Wish we could get the COPS camera crew to follow those city workers or ambush them at the Ottawa Park ice rink ;-)

Yeah! And bust an elected official or two or three, especially on the real good stuff like DUI, prostitution stings or getting a payoff.

How do you put something like that together, anyway?

I hate that show. I may be wrong but it is my opinion that when they film they cops "play it up" for the camera.

They should have been here tonight when 2 TPD officers and a sargent came out to the Ottawa Rink because I wasn't letting a group of tennis players use the restroom that I clean and pay for all supplies. They even took a report on me about it. Details under Toledo Street Hockey League post on here.

Follow the cops as they shoot a biker in the back and paralyze him for life.

^^To be completely accurate, that was an Ottawa Hills police officer, not TPD.

Ok you got me on that one. Watch as one mad black female cop shots another officer.

How about watch as a female TPD cop runs down suspects and shoots old developmentally disabled women with scissors rather than back out of a room.

Yeah, and that woman should have been charged with murder. She ought to be in jail right now, and instead she's out and happily at work.

I may have seen one of the first recordings for the program. I went to a meeting at the South Branch on Broadway. We finished about 8:00 PM, and as myself and a couple reached the inner sliding doors I saw a patrol car and a larger SUV (maybe a command vehicle) parked in the lot for "Dollar Deal Plus". We decided not to leave since we did not know what we might be getting into. We also saw a vehicle with a sign on the roof that appeared to be from Opal Corvey that was parked in front of the auto parts place next door.

I walked down the aisle in the direction of downtown, and saw a third police vehicle behind the command vehicle. There were also two fellows in bullet-proof vests (one was holding a microphone on a pole), and I thought they might be the news, but did not see any vehicles with local news id's. I thought it might be "COPS". A lady sitting at a desk working on her computer confirmed that. Apparently the cops had taken an "indecent exposture" into custody. He had been peeing in view of the public (he was intoxicated, and had a full bladder so it went on more than a few seconds).

Well, that fellow may not have his 15 minutes of fame, but he might warrant a few minutes on "COPS".

If I understand the city in any way I have to wonder what incentive/perk is offered by the show to entice a city to participate.

There has to be something? Why didn't the Blade or anyone else inquire. Am I missing something?

They must be "invited" to film, according to this: http://www.tvrage.com/Cops/show_faq

So... apparently WE asked THEM.
