Does anyone else find it odd (re: SeaGate)...

That's pretty bad. Maybe it's just that no one has thought of it. Not an excuse, of course. Merely a possible reason.

If 5/3rd isn't there, I'm guessing there's no Huntington Center either...nor any of the bars/restaurants, etc.

Details, details, details...it all comes down to taking care of the details...

I know that there would be a little expense involved in changing the panel, but I can't imagine it's that expensive that it couldn't have been updated in 12+ years!

It's the display signage at the entrance near the Radisson/Park Inn. (I don't know what the technical term for those things are, but the same type of marquee that shows the locations of all the stores in the mall.)

Side note: The luncheon I attended was at the Park Inn. I've never been in the banquet room there, but they did a nice job. It's kind of frustrating to see the unrealized potential of those facilities.

Nope...the map pre-dates 5/3rd Field, so anything else that has changed downtown since 1999-ish hasn't been updated either.

Who knows - it's so old that the company they bought it from might not even exist. I'm sure there's a different purchasing person at Seagate than there was 12 years ago.

It's sad how neglected Seagate looks. It could really use an update but there isn't enough business to warrant spending the money.

It is sad. We walk through imagination station to the underground mall or whatever it is/was to the Triple A Cafe. Wish they would vamp it up! Such a neat area!

One of my first jobs was working as a valet at COSI when it first opened (imagine valets there now!). As a high school kid I loved exploring the area stooks is talking about when I was at work. There was an exciting feeling of activity back then. Wasn't there an upscale restaurant down there too?

Yes there was- I can't remember the name of it. It's just really neat! Too bad some shops couldn't open up down there!!

No, there wasn't an aquarium - at least not that I was ever aware of. The name of the restaurant was Ricardo's. It was indeed fine dining. But, then, it started to go down hill much the same way as the Navy Bistro did.
If I have my facts straight, the person/family who owned Ricardo's now owns the Star Diners. I believe that is correct but I wouldn't bet the farm on it.

Foodie, you are correct. Richard Skaff owned Ricardo's (as well as the Willows and maybe another restaurant or two.) His son, Joe Skaff, owns the Star Diners and Star Bar.

The aquarium was under the Key bank building, south of COSI.

The inaccurate maps should be brought to DTID's attention. Hopefully someone there is reading this and takes action. In case they're not, I'll send an email to them. Maybe they can update it to this century...It's just a map, but to be THAT outdated is embarrassing.

To be honest.... no I do not find it strange that this is happening. I find over and over, few people in this town (not city), care about their surroundings. While us who actually do care get laughed at. I see many things that are not correct, from TARTA adverts on the buses being way out of date, to lack of care on Byrne RD... from Denise to the Swan Creek Bridge. Lots of overgrown bushes and trees.

I have noticed that if people here do not use it... they won't care, as if the unions tell them they shouldn't care about their surroundings (that's the joke about Toledo and it's surroundings with a few friends.

I was called a "nark" after I mentioned I reported sirens going off on Airport Hwy last night. This is not the way to care about a city. To continue this method, will definitely result in Toledo's total demise.

Common Toledo, Let's begin to care! You have cities smaller than you, with just as much, who care and keep it up better. Marquette, MI is a prime example!

As for all of the old portside/seagate related hot spots that have disappeared, I don't think it's far-fetched to imagine that they'll be back within the next few years. Downtown was on the decline when they happened, and with the rise in interest and population going on now, I think the time is coming when things like this can be better supported.

What will probably end up being the solution is the removal of the old map without a replacement. Which would still be better than some outdated thing which no longer serves its function.

I assume it is a display and not a handout?

By the way... am I the only one who feels SeaGate is an unattractive dump? I hate going down there.

By "SeaGate," are you referring to the convention center? Or the development as a whole?

I can't remember if I ever mentioned my moving out of downtown story. I worked in a business for five years on Jefferson Avenue. A few years ago the business was bought by a privately held foreign company. Two executives came to visit us and stayed at the Park Inn. Their first decision about the future of our little group was to tell me to find new offices away from Downtown. They came expecting at least a semi-metropolitan area and their first night here couldn't find anyplace to get something to eat.

I think the area is better now, but I think having our "convention center" showing outdated materials and broken signage, attached to a hotel that gets consistently bad reviews is a bad first impression.

it's terrifically embarrassing. Can anyone tell me specifically where the signage is? I'd like to send some emails off to the convention center.

When you walk in the doors, there is a display sign. (A big one, like the store directory at the mall.)

If I were visiting SeaGate from out of town, I'd expect to see something reasonably current, so that I find places of interest within walking distance.

BTW, when I walked through SeaGate the other day, it appeared that they must be doing some painting somewhere.

Hopefully that's a sign that they are sprucing up the place a little.

I checked the events calendar, and the annual Jehovah's Witness convention is coming up very soon.

Sure, that convention wouldn't be my personal cup of tea, but it brings a lot of people downtown every year. I'd hope that SeaGate is able to retain that business.
