Selling a gift card

Contact a Cash Advance place. Went to one once on Alexis near the tobacco store that burned down (near 280) and saw a sign they buy gift cards.

This was a couple years ago so your mileage may vary.

Figure that might ease your mind if you're nervous about trusting a joeschmo.com and want to do it in person.

I had a friend who "knew a guy" that could get him gift cards to places like Home Depot or Kohls - he would charge about half of the value on the gift card and they were always in odd increments. Turns out there's a ring of scammers that steal merchandise and then return it without a receipt for store credit.

I'm not saying that's what your gift card is jhop, but the odd increment and selling of the gift card reminded me of it. There's been plenty of gift cards I've received in the past from businesses I don't shop at that I would have gladly taken less than the value to get rid of them. Let me know if you find some place!

I have been told that these places will buy back gift cards on average of 75%-80% of value. Then resold at 90%. Not a big profit, but it must work. I have about ten different gift cards for stores and restaurants that I have not used....maybe I should consider as well

I've seen news articles about these sites...usually right after Christmas. (When people might be getting a bunch of gift cards to stores they'd never shop at...LOL)

I haven't personally done it, though there are a handful of gift cards I've been considering trying to resell.

There are a few legitimate, reputable websites that exist. If I can find one of the news articles, I'll link it here.

I'd be more likely to trust a site that had been reviewed and profiled in a major news story vs. a random site that I found via a Google search. (I'm sure some copycat scam websites have popped up to try to trick people searching for the legit sites.)

my wife bought my mother in law a pair of shoes, she wore them then decided she did not like them. they returned them and the store policy is gift card or exchange for same item. we have searched the website and the store but cannot find a pair of shoes either of us like.

A cashier told me once at Home Depot that people would "steal" items from the store then return them without a receipt and only be able to get a gift card instead of cash. Then these thieves would lurk in the aisles and offer to sell you the gift cards at half value. One of these "lurkers" offered me the deal but I was suspicious and approached the cashier. That's when she told me the story.

Got my check today, no problems at all. gift card was for $106.74 and my check was for $81.12
