Eye Doctor Help

I need to get my peepers examined. Does anyone have any recommendations where I should go? Anyone know of any good deals or prices out there for the exam and frames?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I have recently been using Reed vision for everything and like them a lot. I was developing cataracts and was misdiagnosed by 2 other private practice doctors, including Eyeglass World (major shysters), which cost me over $500 out of pocket as I had already exhausted my vision care insurance for the year. I ended up having surgery thru Reed and am so glad!!! Great docs, great staff, quick service at every office, very accommodating and thorough. I can't speak to their prices as I do not need to wear glasses anymore but they're great for everything else! :)

The doctors at Reed do very thorough exams...way more thorough than at other places I've been.

(I started wearing glasses in the 4th grade, which was a looong time ago...I've seen my fair share of eye doctors.)

One thing to keep in mind is that you don't have to get the frames/lenses at the same place you have your exam.

For example, Eyeglass World often has great sales on frames/lenses...but I personally wouldn't get an exam there again.

Find a good eye doctor, get a copy of your prescription, and then shop around for the frames/lenses!

If you're not adverse to ordering glasses online, I have had a few friends rave about this site. (They ship you frames to try on at home before they make the lenses.)

Also, for each pair sold, the company donates a pair to someone in need.

I've been going to Dr Prinstein at Franklin Park Vision and I've been very happy.

About a year ago I was in between jobs with eye insurance and decided to go to Eyemart across from Target on Monroe because of their "eye exam special"; turned out not to apply to contact lens exam and I ended up paying just as much as I would have at Franklin Park Vision. I also didn't feel like I got as accurate of an exam and they pushed some contact lenses that I end up just throwing away because they were awful.

I've also heard really bad reviews on the Stanton Optical place on the corner of Monroe and Talmadge.

My wife and I have both purchased multiple pairs of Warby Parker glasses. Overall I'm happy (can't beat the price!) but our biggest complaint is that the coating they put on the lens tends to frequently develop a film and needs to be cleaned far more than other pairs of glasses.

I agree with Upso. I have been using Dr. Nemeth for years. She does an incredibly thorough eye exam, and takes the time to talk to you about your vision needs and problems. Her staff are very professional, especially Sue, who fits your glasses. No, you won't get the cheapest glasses or get them in 24 hours. But they aren't satisfied until you are. The manufacturer made a slight error in my (rather complicated) lenses, and they sent them back twice until they were absolutely perfect.

Had a mini emergency today (happened Sunday) - pieces of gravel in the eye - and choose Reed Vision based on nana's experience. I was very pleased. Feeling much better also. I will go back for my regular eye exam due in September.
