Village of walbridge

So has anyone read the Sentinel-Tribune by Debbie Rogers pertaining to the absent Mayor in the village of walbridge?? He missed May 16, May 10, May 2, April 18, March 7, Feb. 20, Feb. 15, and Jan 18..and for the past 9 years he has missed one meeting a month... He wasn't there for special meetings held in may.... Committee meetings he also has missed... Yet, this mayor was quoted in the Sentinel as saying "with the technology today, and e-mail and texts that the town is running just fine without him.".. I was wondering why the Press newspaper never printed this...

Walbridge has a mayor?

Why?

the question at the end of your initial post makes it sound as though your problem with the absent mayor comes down to the fact the "post" never printed it?! you also mention the other paper twice as well as the writer from that other paper... hhhmmmm. this post sounds like a conflict of interest/marketing post for the paper that "broke the story" and taking the occasion to put a finger in the eye of the post... bad form!

The Sentinel Tribune is hardly a newspaper that breaks stories. My guess is italia has a beef with the Press - which I assume is a Walbridge paper?

the press cover the whole east side and oregon ohio... I never said i had a beef with the press, they just didn't cover the story...

A Walbridge paper??? lol 2700 people would have a newspaper you got to be joking...

The people of Walbridge are obviously not a priority for the mayor. I don't know how he can adequately govern and know what's going on in the village if he is never there. Can't voters recall him if they are upset about his frequent absences?

The Mayor was quoted saying"with technology today, cell phones and e-mail and texts he can run the village...It looks like it...So why pay for his wages he is not in the village..

I am kind of surprised as well that The Press is not covering this issue. That paper is an award winning weekly known for breaking huge stories and beating all of the other media outlets in the area. Maybe there is a staff shortage at the paper which does not allow for the full coverage this issue in Walbridge? If you are so upset italiajojo05, why don't you contact the powers that be at the paper and ask why it is not being covered? There has got to be a reason. That paper usually does not shy away from hard hitting, community oriented news.

The reason would be that the reporter who is covering the area just isn't doing his job...It is just as easy to take reports from a article from another paper, and just change the words around a bit...A good reporter would be attending those council meetings to see that 4 member of council are not happy with the mayor for many other reasons... and ask the questions... That way the voters can see who isn't working for them...

Or take comments from a website and investigate and create a story out of it.

Or maybe people could actually attend a council meeting themselves....or pick up the phone and talk to other council members.....axe grinder

My guess is that most people don't care.

Bwahahaha. Sorry, GDW, but it's called LAZINESS! Some newspapers just don't want to do the investigative stuff. Too bad for the public, who used to rely on the media to uncover abuse of power, incompentency, inefficiency, etc. No wonder newspapers are failing! Good luck, italiajojo05. Maybe get a flier or newsletter going, since the village is so small, and inform them of what's going on. Maybe you guys can throw him out at the next election.

The Press is a paper known for doing the investigative stuff. It seems the reporters who cover other areas in their coverage area- I believe it is east Toledo, Oregon, Northwood, all the way through Oak Harbor- do do the investigative "newsy" stuff. I just think there has got to be a reason why the ball is being dropped in Walbridge. I did not know the paper even went there? But, if it does, then the paper should cover them as well. Do people in Walbridge really care or read about that happens in other cities? I hope italiajob05 can find out why and call the paper, post a complaint, and then hopefully something can happen.

Could be worse, could have a mayor that looses and wont leave office.

Is their mayor still Wilczynski?

I know him personally and he is a great person.

"I know him personally and he is a great person."

He may be a "great person," but not a "great mayor" if he doesn't give a damn about fulfilling his responsibilities when he was voted into office by the taxpayers. If he's too busy to go to council meetings, then he should let someone else who is more dedicated take his place. I'm not sure why he ran in the first place if he's not there most of the time.

I don't know anything about the situation, but I know that none of us know the whole story here. This could easily be small town politics of the worst sort. I have no idea.

what does small town politics have to do with the Mayor missing meetings???The whole story is clear and simple.... He missed 9 meetings in a roll, so that makes it small town politics... So what is your point blusterbluth????

Apparently Channel 11 felt it was important.. They are going to address this...They saw the article in the Sentinal tribune, and The press failed to report it..

It takes a village to raise a child.

Apparently recalling a mayor leaves the village stumped.

italia - do you live in Walbridge? You have a dog in this fight you are avoiding telling us.

"You have a dog in this fight you are avoiding telling us."

Sounds to me like Italia is just frustrated that the local media is not reporting on this. Italia did the right thing by going around the local press and going to the big boys at the broadcast station. The small community papers usually are staffed by high school kids or people who just write about when your sidewalks and sewers will be installed. They just aren't equipped to do the big stuff. Just go to The Blade or the broadcast stations when you want to get some attention on an issue you think is important, Italia. Their websites have contact e-mail and phone numbers.

^^Astute points BD.

Also don't forget that this tiny paper probably wants to continue to have "access" to the officials in this tiny village. Piss off the "kingpins" and what else will this paper have to write about?

They most likely do not have the guts to go after anybody in power because they do not want to take the risk of being shunned and losing what small readership they have...a readership that would get bored pretty quick reading only about Little League activity and meetings of the butterfly club and free tai chi classes.

You got that right, oldhometown! The reporter for that paper probably goes to barbecues at the mayor's house and is good friends with him, doesn't want to piss him off. These weekly newspapers are PR vehicles for the government. They are not professional journalists that investigate serious issues or abuse of power like at The Blade and the TV stations. We shouldn't expect too much from them.
