At the council hearing today on the planned 1mil levy for parks and recreation Lindsay Webb let it slip that this was going to be the selling point........better parks-more police. According to Ms Webb if the citizens just decide to tax themselves a little bit more council could give back $900k so we could hire more police to then patrol the parks.
She did not explain why if we have $900k we wouldn't just leave it there and use it for the parks instead of giving it back, or why citizens who already pay for the zoo, metroparks, imagination station, school playgrounds need to now pay to provide recreation programs for kids who care little about them.

I'm probably one of the few who think this levy is for the good of our community. As a child I loved going to Trilby Park, our neighborhood park. It was a treat when my Mom let us go. I think that children need parks and recreation and less video games, TV, cell phones, etc.
I do not know about inner city parks but the parks out in our area are used but in rough shape. When we were in the township they were in tip top shape and I suspect our parents paid a tax for them.
I'm prejudiced by having a mother who was an immigrant. She told me taxes were what we paid to live in this wonderful country.
