Police Auction of Seized Vehicles?

Have any of you attended these auctions? How much info do you get on the vehicles? What are prices like?

You don't get too much info... or the key (if they have it) unless you are the winning bidder. Their website has pretty good instructions. The prices can be cheap. If I were buying, I would have a tow truck on stand by.

Like everything else in the technology era, there are tons of buyers that include people looking to buy cheap, fix, and sell at a profit. I only have been to one and really didn't see anything that was a "good buy".

Thanks for the input. I've kind of been looking for a reliable pickup truck. Nothing fancy. I need something that I could throw rocks and dirt into without flinching. LOL!

I went to one. They pretty much sell "as is." Hope you get your pickup truck!

What you see is what you get. The vehicles are not guaranteed to start up and run or anything, but you can get lucky. I think a pick up truck that could be turned into a reliable work truck wouldn't be beyond the realm of possibility. Just remember that the stories about some guy down at the shop buying a $30,000 truck for $300 are just that - stories.

I've gone to many of these and have purchased only one vehicle. My advice, know what you want and what it costs in the free market, then bid accordingly if you go. Auction action does bring some higher values though and you cannot start or drive the vehicle at these auctions. Good luck.

PS-register online prior to avoid the long line at the site.

Good info. I've been to one of them (my stepdad bought a truck) and it was no different that most other auctions I've been before. For some reason people always pay more at an auction than the items would sell for on craigslist. At one auction, I watched in awe as guys where buying used tools for more money than you could them new for!

I have gone to 2 auctions in the last year or so looking for a cheap truck and most of the early to mid 1990's I have seen have gone for at least $1400 and still require alot of fixup, flat tires most commonly and alot of them with broken glass and pulled apart dashboards or door panels and the obligatory missing stereo that goes with such damage
