The Buffalo - questions (photos)

The Buffalo

This old bar is located in Northern Toledo, Ohio. This old bar has been around since around the 1940's. I can not find any information about this location. Anyone have info, or historic photos of this location?

Looks like 632 Buffalo at N. Erie. The owner also owns a vacant lot next door at 630 Buffalo with a total of $2600 taxes past due.

Is that the place that used to house a little mexican bar/restaurant called The Mud Puddle?

This used to be the Buffalo Cafe. Here is a 1957 image from the public library's Images in Time series:

This link connects to a Toledo Blade obituary on a former owner of the Buffalo Cafe.

Here is an ad placed by the owner of the Buffalo Cafe for a barmaid in the Toledo Blade on October 14, 1969. What really made me chuckle was a similar ad below this one for a joint called the Ding Dong Night Club (click the image for a larger view):

From time time I tell "youngsters" that the Blade's Help Wanted Ads were divided into Men and Women sections...well into the 70's I believe.

Thank you so much for all the info! I updated my blog

Separately, the Ding Dong Night Club made me laugh!

[Totally off-topic, but instigated by this thread: Started poking through old Blade help wanted ads from the late 1970's. Had forgotten how easy it was back then to get a job. I was young, just out of the Army, had computer skills. Those were the days.]

I knew the former owner Mr Parker. Nice guy. Back in the late 60's and until his death it was mostly just neighborhood customers. I rented a building on Galena street in the late 70's-early 80's and got to know the neighborhood well. I used to stop in for a beer on occasion. Later it became a real trouble spot. Gang hangout and there was at least one fatal shooting in front of the bar. I was born and lived in the
north end for many years. Off topic The Ding Dong was at Detroit and Glendale. Owned by a Syrian guy at one time and had really good food. Especially the meat pies. I also saw on the help wanted ad The Safari Club. Brought back youthful memories. It was on Detroit Ave. and was one of Toledo's first topless clubs. When I turned 18 they had just made full liquor legal for those 18 yrs old. I spent my last night before shipping out for the army getting hammered there.

I love the architectural style of that building..I wish I knew its whole history...did it start out as a general store?
