I'm on Verizon and plan to stay with that carrier. I have a 3 yr old Blackberry. I need to be able to read QR codes for my job, thus I have to update. The deadline is tomorrow or I have to pay full price - Verizon's new pricing plan. I'm adamant about not getting an iphone. I text a lot, take and send pictures a lot and search the web a lot. GPS is not an interest. Can anyone give me advice about the best droid phone?
Need new phone advice.

I have a Samsung Galaxy & love it. (We have Sprint, but my sister has the same phone through Verizon.)
I'm typing on it right now. :)
Held onto my Blackberry forever...once I finally switched to Android, I kicked mysef for not doing it sooner.
This is the only non-Blackberry smartphone I've had, so I can't personally compare it to any other Android phone.
P.S. The deciding factor in picking my phone was that it has a slideout keyboard. If I'm typing something at length, I like the keyboard. I don't care to do a ton of typing on the touchscreen. Probably a remnant from my Blackberry days. LOL
I think one of the HTC models has a keyboard as well, that's what my FIL has.
i love my droid bionic, it had a few problems at first but the software updates fixed them. this is my third droid, all of mine have been Motorolas. whatever phone you end up getting, get an extended battery because 4g uses alot of juice.
IMO the best phone is the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, followed by the Motorola Razr Maxx. In two weeks, the Samsung S3 will be the newest bestest. I recommend the top-tier phones because they will last you at least the next two years. The salesman will try to sell you an older phone that isn't even capable of receiving new software updates. They push these older phones because the Verizon gives them higher commissions for selling this older junk.

Love my Droid Bionic as well. This is my second Droid. The first had a slide out board, but I use Swype on this one. If you're used to a blackberry, the phone mom2 suggested might be a good fit, though.
I have heard a lot of negative things about droids from people in my family. Therefore my vote is the Iphone 4 even though you are adament about not getting one.

^ agreed.
Although they're popping out so many different versions of droids, I'm not sure which one is tops now. But we've had 3 different ones and I can say I loved it, but it had many problems so I returned mine.
Funny fact that George Lucas has the rights to the word "Droid".
Why so adamantly against the iPhone? I've had an iPhone 4S for about 9 months now and am very pleased with it. I was fed up with my Droid X and dumped it.
I have a (free) QR code reading app on my iPhone that works great so that wouldn't be an issue for you. As for picture quality, this iPhone is top shelf.
'Why so adamantly against the iPhone?" Because Apple is one of the giant evil corporations of our time that squashes innovative companies with endless lawsuits to keep their prices sky high all the while creating labor shops that cause workers to jump to their deaths. The whole time masquerading as this cool "I'm your buddy" hipster house of fun. They lock you in their box with propriety software and tell you that if you don't like 40% of the internet (Flash) then you can just suck it cause we don't like giving Adobe money.
I've had the Razr Maxx and I have zero complaints.

Another vote for the HTC Evo 4G. Download speed is lightning-fast and a very intuitive design.

There are multiple reasons to choose an Android phone over an iPhone, if you’re doing it because Apple is “one of the giant evil corporations of our time that squashes innovative companies with endless lawsuits to keep their prices sky high all the while creating labor shops that cause workers to jump to their deaths.”
But then turn around and buy another Chinese made phone with a Google operating system on a carrier like Verizon or AT&T then the words clueless hypocrite comes to mind.
As for 40% of the internet using Flash? Hardly, Flash was always a crap filled, security nightmare that needed to go. There is very little out there now and less every day. Adobe has all but pulled the plug on in. Nowhere near 40%, not even close. I’d guess than less than 5% of the internet isn’t available to Apple and frankly, those web site owners should fire their IT guys.

I've been using an iPhone as long as they've been making them, and I have zero complaints.
This is why, in part.
One of android's killer Apps is FoxFi. With one press on the screen your phone becomes a mobile hotspot. Just make sure you've got unlimited data!

I switched from a Blackberry Bold to an Iphone 4 and I love it.
What is iPhones equivalent to foxfi? I thought you have to "jailbreak" the iPhone in order to make it a wifi hotspot. Is there an app for that?

No hotspot app needed on the iPhone, it's built into iOS out of the box. Enable it under Settings > General > Network > Personal Hotspot
I don't need an app to use my Droid as a WiFi hotspot either.
Thank you all!
I got the htc Rezound with extended battery, $199 to upgrade from my old Blackberry and kept my unlimited data plan with no increase in cost. I'm happy.
It seems pretty easy to use. Havent downloaded the bard code app yet.
4g Android with Beats Audio
Come back here in about a year and tell us if you're still happy with the htc. Those things are pure crap.
Just like dbw's argument against Apple.

My father-in-law got an HTC phone about the same time I got my Samsung, and he is still happy with it.
(I don't recall the exact model anymore, but it was one I considered when I got my phone. It also has a keyboard.)
Um, yeah I read the article. What's the point? Those employees CHOOSE to work at Apple. Nobody's holding a gun to their head and forcing them to work there.

Wonder how much the Old Gray Lady pays people to peddle their agenda?

I think you'll be very happy with the rezound. I think it's the third best device out there. Know that 4g is a huge battery drain, I only use it for heavy browsing and downloading. Some apps I recommend: FoxFi, Swipepad, and Geocoupons. Between geocoupons and slickdeals.net, I've saved thousands.

Thanks for the info OL. I got the extended battery anticipating the 4g drain. It makes the phone bulky but I still consider it an advantage. As you can probably imagine, its quite a treat compared to a 3 yr old Blackberry. Blazing fast.
amazon gives a free android app each day, you need to install the amazon store app on your phone. most of the time it is a $.99 game but i have downloaded quick office and documents to go for free from amazon and they are both $15.00+ apps.
