July 1, 2012 weather

I hope this link works - it's the storm as it first came across the Maumee Bay headed east.

There is a tornado warning for Sandusky County and the wind is now whipping the clouds around here in Point Place. Heard there was hail to the west....

My garden looks like it went through a shredder. 1" or better hail here, I have one in the freezer.

A storm came through fast at our lake in NE Indiana. A large limb just missed our boat and a tree was literally lifted out of the ground and landed on two cottages

Perhaps I am the last person here to know this but is our board owner/operator "jr" the same "jr" who now does the weekend weather at WTVG?

I ask since "our" jr seems to have far more than casual knowledge of weather.

That's not me on TV. I'll have to tune in to see who you are talking about. My interest in weather or meteorology began in grade school. I spent a lot of time in the Scalia Lab at O.U. I'm simply an observer.

FYI ... 1:17 p.m., July 2 Cleveland NWS area forecast discussion :

still a possibility for thunderstorms in the afternoon as
western half of the forecast area remains under the atmospheric
ring of fire. this area is where afternoon thunderstorms develop
and move clockwise around the edge of the high pressure center.
this is what we have seen over the last few days and will likely
see into wednesday.

Channel 11 was 56% more annoying than 13

Sorry jr - the Meteorologist's name is Justin Ryan. "Wall to wall" coverage aside, he was pretty impressive. Also seemed to know the region quite well which is why I wondered if he and you were one and the same.

As annoying as I tend to find the severe weather coverage, I always remind myself that the viewing area is more than just Metro Toledo.

And, as I stated a couple of years ago, Blizzard Bill had the Woodville Rd. area tornados pinpointed down to the streets involved.

Did anybody else see on Facebook this morning, the Channel 11 News Director posted a video regarding last night's storm coverage? Supposedly there were a ton of pissed-off golf fans who were upset that WTOL/Fox interrupted the golf program to cover the weather.

"Supposedly there were a ton of pissed-off golf fans who were upset that WTOL/Fox interrupted the golf program to cover the weather."

I'm one of them! Tiger Woods and Bo Van Pelt, both sharing the lead at -8, were heading to the 18th hole to determine who was going to win the AT&T National Tournament and Ch. 11 breaks in. Argh!

Well, that is certainly more important than warning people of possible life threatening weather conditions isn't it??!!

Good grief. Another "it's all about me" blockhead.

bullshit Foodie, I'm with gemini. That idiot kid on 11 quoted "the national weather service says" a gazillion times and the Tornado threat was done way before he finally went off the air. If they all simply rely on what "the national weather service says", why the hell do they need these local "experts" to interpet what "the national weather service says" 56% more accurately?

The weather coverage was stupid. He said the same thing over and over again. Then they kept posting the wrong score and hole for the tournament. My son was going nuts. Split screen or do something, it just looked amateurish.

Ever occur to you that not everyone tuned in at the same time - hence the reason for the repitition?

I agree that non-stop weather coverage can be annoying but when the possibility of life threatening storms occur, would you rather the local stations be silent on the subject?

I recall a while back many here jumping all over WSPD for NOT reporting severe weather as they thought WSPD should have.

It also wouldn't surprise me that a certain amount of coverage may be required by the FCC.

Regardless, warning folks about severe weather seems to me a far higher priority than watching douche bag Tiger Woods shoot it out on the 18th.
