Hannon's Block

Just wondering if anyone knew anything new about Hannon's Block. I noticed a sign in the window today for apts that I haven't seen in over 3 years. Maybe progress is finally being made on converting the building into residential units.

I hope so -- I look at the building when I drive through town and it's a beauty!

I spoke with their leasing dept. and it appears that they are looking for a buyer.

Found some pictures of the interior

The floor plans and graphics look ambitious.

The owners took it on as a side project right before the recession hit. Since then, they've basically been in a holding pattern until they decide if they want to proceed or see if a good offer comes along.

Of all the places downtown that could use a great mural to sort of that gloomy Rustbeltness (not a technical term haha) and beautify downtown, the side of Hannon's Block is arguably #1 on the list.

I'm sure once they get Section 8 certification the project will move forward. LOL!

I wonder what used to be up against that side of the building? Anyone know?

And once you start taking the little pills the nice man in the white coat gave you your return to sanity will move forward. LOL!

The side of the wall was a common wall between 2 buildings. The building next to it was torn down and you can see the pockets where the floor beams fit in. Reminds me of the interior wall at Grumpys you can see where the floor used to be.

I know; what I meant was that I was curious as to what the building next to it was. Not only can you see remnants of the floor joists, but old stairways too. It's kind of neat, really...

How about a picture http://images.toledolibrary.org/images/ndrive/Z000/Z00043/Z000/Z00006/Z0000665.jpg
Someday I'll learn how to actually post a pix.

Remember the Cheney Lofts? Yeah, my point is proven. There are a lot of residences built downtown and uptown that were just converted to Section 8 once the developers realized their gross mistake in assuming White yuppies would move downtown.

Watching developers make the same mistake over and over is actually quite therapeutic for me, so thank you for your concern.

Break them in half and they are easier to swallow, GZ. But mind you don't lose count of the dose.

That "Coming soon" seems to have been in the window for at least a couple years.

Who the heck knows what amount of time soon entails, tho.

When a subdivision is planned and some houses are built and then the worst recession in eight years hits and fucks it up, it's chalked up to a freak economic calamity.

When it happens downtown, it's because it can't work.

Is that the knowledge I'm supposed to have learned from your post?

BB, it wasn't a "freak economic calamity". It was an entirely foreseeable economic collapse, and it will never end for Toledo, at least for people alive at this time. There's no such thing as infinite credit, just as there's no such thing as infinite petroleum. Taking their limitations into account, it was easy to see the crash coming, which is why I prepared for it since 1997.

This isn't a recession. This is the Greatest Depression. And it will just go on and on.

At least the places like Bartley and Standart finally wised up and built in the fashion that had the only ability to attract White yuppies, that being high buildings with secure parking... keeping that distance from all the scary Blacks shambling around downtown.

Ironically that's what's been done with downtown and uptown housing. Sec8 breaks them in half, rent wise. The government becomes a renter to allow the great unwashed to live in places they shouldn't be living in. That helps cash out the developers, who are the only real beneficiaries of the Sec8 program.

This thread isn't going where you planned, is it? Maybe you need a new plan.

I learned a new word: "Shambling."

Verb
(of a person) Move with a slow, shuffling, awkward gait.

Separated, they make "Sham Bling" which I already knew to be fake jewelry.

Funny did a non scientific survey of the development I live in in the warehouse district that odley you probably havn't heard of since it was done with minium goverment envolment (yes there is a CRA) and the fact that all units sold with only word a mouth marketing. Guess you could claim yubbie on the 30 to 50 yr old age range with no kids and that there are more European cars back there then American. But it looks like they are 50% minority owned. GuessZero its 2013 looks like minorities have money too, and the devolpers know this. Statsicly speaking the number one resident of sec 8 housing is white childern in the US. Try to atleast be someone close with your sterotypes

GZ, why are you still here? If Toledo is bound for eternal failure, why haven't you moved yet? You can obviously see the writing on the wall.

Oh, I get that sort of thing all the time from the threatened classes, Johio. Because they're threatened. I'm not leaving. Ever. So you'll just have to put up with me rubbing your noses in that continual failures of your Praetorian/Liberal policy set.

Also, I need people like YOU to leave. You're the problem here, not me. You spend too much, support big government, and take up jobs that my class of person need. So, if YOU don't like all that you're hearing, dump the house and leave us a cloud of dust. Your absence really has more value.

Funny, the statistics don't say that. You must be getting confused by all that free Section 8 money that comes along with some minorities.

And all those shamblers downtown and uptown aren't on foot or bicycles because they don't want to get their Beemer scratched.

In other words, get serious. It was hardly worth my time to slap you around in this posting.

Well ummm I voted for Romney and McCain, and a registered Republican, and my immediate family owns three separate and functioning businesses in the Toledo area. That's what you're trying to drive away? Nearly all of my Maumee Valley classmates have left, which only perpetuates the brain drain. That's what you want to leave? Makes sense to me....

You strike me as more of the "angry old man" types, and I personally don't think you have a single fucking clue. Figuratively speaking of course.

In other news Don't worry my Bimmer is in secure parking downtown so I'm free to Shambler about without worries of it being scratched.
