Beware of power companies "slamming" door to door

Just got a visit from a gentleman who said he was from AEP (maybe) power company and I needed to show him a copy of my toledo edison bill and sign up for lower rates on electricity. He gave me a photocopied letter about changing power suppliers that wasn't very imformative. He told me that rates were recently lowered and to take advantage I needed to sign up with him. Never once showing me a cost comparison.
I told him that I wasn't signing anything. He took back his letter and left.
I immediately called Toledo Edison and found out that there are options of different suppliers but changing is not mandatory. In fact, what he was/is doing is shady at best.
Beware of this guy and/or other companies doing the same.
There is nothing wrong with changing suppliers, it still goes through toledo edison, but trying to "catch" you or "bait" you into doing it is just wrong.

By the way, I live off Detroit Ave. in the 43612 area code.

Had a gas guy do that a couple years ago. "Sign up now and you can save on your gas bill." Back then my bill was maybe $15 max wasn't worth messing with a 3rd party company. Electric now is still around $50. This was in Perrysburg.

If it's such a good deal you'd think they would be trying companies that use $1k worth of utilities a month.

His words were, "Toledo Edison is changing suppliers since the price has gone way down. By signing now, you'll keep those low rates."
He never fully explained that he represented one supplier and that signing with them gives you their rates. He was very pushy and bordered on lying about what he was doing.

I would notify PUCO about this. It sounds very shady. I'm surprised Toledo Edison didn't react more to this. Yes, there is supplier choice, but I'm sure Toledo Edison would love to jump on of the other alternative suppliers.
