NBC 24 makeover

I watch all of the local stations at various times from time to time. Looks like WNWO is trying again. This time its with new people. They've added a new sports guy, a new reporter, and a new morning anchor.

Have to give them credit. No matter how bad they are, they keep trying.

^and they ARE bad

I'm glad to see they finally ditched the stupid "ToledoOnTheMove.com" web address...although (unbelievably) they dumped it for something even more generic:

http://www.northwestohio.com/

Nothing... nothing ...will work for this station until they have a stable, long-term, Toledo-popular news personality they can build around. Most (if not all) of the people I see on this website have zero credibility with me. It's not their fault--I just don't know them as a viewer. And it's not made any easier by the fact this place changes news philosophies and personalities on (literally) a semi-annual basis.

It will take a long term commitment by anchors/reporters invested in Toledo to rebuild 24. Honestly, the best thing they could do is dangle a shitload of money in front of one of the established anchors over at 11 or 13 and see if they get a bite.

Or they can do a cheap and easy ratings fix and highlight their female reporter's boobs in daring, provocative outfits and load the ladies' scripts with double entendres and innuendo. What the hell...what do they have to lose at this point?

Until I get boobs thrown in my face during the evening news, I really don't have any interest in watching. Please let me know when that happens. Thanks.

Well what do you expect from another MSNBC station?

It has nothing to do really with their network affiliation. And NBC was the #1 network in the United States for a number of years and WNWO still sucked.

This station has a long... long ...history of being a cheap, do-your-time-and-GTFO place to work, stretching back well into their days as Toledo's ABC affiliate.

WNWO should just call it a day. Toledo's population is down. We really don't need that many local news shows.

I'll say it again: Toledo needs a local news cast about every third day.

I've been watching the morning newcast primarily because I think the weather guy, Jon James, is really upbeat. He's definitely a 70% chance of sunshine vs. a 30% chance of rain kind of guy. Where Blizzard Bill turns a shower into a torrential downpour, Jon James is telling you not to change any of your outdoor plans despite the fact you might get a brief and light rain.

After your post about Jon James, I decided to check him out. You're right. He's a good weather guy -- far superior to Blizzard Bill.

But that morning show! Ugh is it bad. Where is the actual news? And that reporter (what's his name?) is just horrible covering whatever fluff piece they are doing that morning. The morning show is just a train wreck.

Saw that they added some viewers in their six and eleven broadcasts, so maybe there is hope for them. Hubert Wiggins is a great reporter. Unfortunately, if they have any other reporters, I haven't seen them.

I think I'll just stick with WTVG. They're not what they used to be. But they're still the best in town.

The video production values of the local broadcast are terrible. They manage to make 1080i look bad. They frequently have the gain turned up to high that everything is blazing bright and clipping. Add to that the soft, mushy PQ and the whole thing is a mess.

Are they the ones that did the morning show on a couch? Do they still do that?

I have not watched local news in years and I don't think I have missed a thing. Of course, this is Toledo. Just like they used to say about the soaps--you can stop watching for a few years, but as soon as you start again, it will be like you never stopped. Same stories over and over and over.
