Pumbe Reccomendation

Columbia gas found 5 small gas leaks in my basement while doing some gas meter maintenance. My gas will remain shut off until I can fix the issue. I guess my own work wasn't up to par.

Can anyone reccomend a plumber for an easy repair job. It shouldn't be much more than an hour of work plus a pressue test.

I've used Alternative Plumbing and Ben Franklin. Have been happy with the work of both though BF always tries to sell me something I don't want/need.

Thanks to both of you for the info. I found a pressure tester and am thinking about attempting myself first. I will take this info into consideration if I can't fix on my own. These leaks are so small that they are almost non-existant but apparently any leak will get your gas shut off if Columbia finds it.

allowable leaks in gas lines is 0. get bigger pipe wrenches and use more thread tape.

OK. I won't br cheap with the thread tape. The zero tolerance policy is important to keep in mind. In the coming years, Columbia will be sending out peoiple to replace meters and gas lines all over the region. Even professional jobs develop leaks over time, so this might be something to at least mentally prepare for. I thought I was getting a simple inspection. It turned out to be much more. I probably would have lost my temper had the representative from Columbia not been so helpful. He was very patient and answered all of my questions thoroughly.

There's this guy named Joe I heard about on the TV, but he's apparently unlicensed...

Awww, someone's a crankypants today.

Guess we can't have a laugh. I mean, what with Toledo already being one of the top laughingstocks of the nation?

Coward, were you born stupid or did you have to work at it?

Done! Took about 9 hours to take apart all the pipes and re-thread. No leaks now. It cost about $35 and most of my Saturday. After closer inspection, not only was my own work a little shoddy, but whoever installed the furnace must have hand tightened the fittings. Eveything was really loose.

...My attempt to put out the flames on this thread.

Good job nick, as they say tighten it then go another full turn at least, bigger pipe wrenches always work too.

You are right about that. I have a 3 foot pipe that fits over the end of a pipe wrench. That's a lot of torque.
