Epic Buffet

The BF and I are thinking about going to the Epic Buffet for a special treat this weekend. Has anyone gone here, on a weekend? I am wondering about the food quality and whether the food is worth the price.

We went during the week, but it was a good meal. They were continuously adding fresh and hot dishes to the buffet.

It's alright - I view it on the same level as a hometown buffet or golden corral. Just don't go on the weekend when they raise the prices.

That is good to know. Not sure I want to spend a ton if I can get a buffet fix for less.

Ok, won a prize pack from a local radio station that included a meet and greet with the band Fuel and two dinners at the Epic Buffet, yesterday.
I can tell you that I am soooooo glad we did not pay for the dinner. I would have been off the charts hostile. Worst food I have ever had, bar none.
The only carved meats they had were ham and a London Broil, which may have been ok IF the person carving it would have known how to do it and IF it would have been hot or even slightly warm.
Fried clams and catfish were ok, the kielbasa was dried out, the Italian section looked like it was loaded with DiGiorno pizza, the Asian section was laughable.
The desserts- the cheesecake was ok, the chocolate cake was dried out, and the so called creme brulee was- well- the sugar topping had turned into a pool of a watery caramel like substance.
This was my first and last time going to the casino. It was not very crowded and was there 4 hours and never saw anyone win on the slots. Did watch some people win/lose/win again on Black Jack and roulette though.
Spoke with a couple from Cleveland who were about in their 60's- They said the casino there is packed 24/7, with lines out the door. They expressed complete shock that the casino was not in downtown- in fact- the husband said, "I can't believe I am staring at the Toledo skyline so far away." They were not thrilled that they had to stay at the Crowne Plaza and get a shuttle. They would have preferred to be where they could walk to the casino but were warned that the area was not a safe place to walk.
All in all, it was very depressing. People did not seem very happy there, at all. If you need reminding as to what a third class city Toledo is, then go to the casino. From the ambiance or lack thereof, to the food, to the clientele, it was not worth the gas to go there.

I wonder if the fact that you went on a sunday night affected the quality at all? I've been to the casino a few times, but usually on a thursday/friday/saturday and the place has been packed and the food great.

I have yet to eat at the buffet and certainly have not been thrilled with the variety but for the most part it's always looked yummy.

I would suspect that sundays are the worst day of the week to go to the casino, as it's probably their slowest day and therefor... unfortunately, they don't present their "a game"

for a different perspective, I was there last weekend to meet up with some friends visiting from out of town. We all won several "big" wins on the nickel slots. One friend took his winnings to the black jack tables and won several hundred dollars on his first round.

just like vegas, it's going to be different yet predictable every night

We drove over one saturday night from Pburg a couple months ago....great location if you live on the east side of the burg, 10 minutes to get there at most. We all had a great time drinking and gambling, however we did not eat there. I don't know if I'd be too excited to go if the lines were out the door....I think that's great for the Casino, but for me the person who goes every couple of months it'd be a deterrent.

Mother in law went friday night and came away +$600 from the slots, and I couldn't believe she even went in there.

What are people truly expecting when they go there? Vegas? Everyone needs to remember this is Toledo...when you go to 5/3 field do you expect Tigers level baseball? Or Comerica Field size and ammenities? I think it's pretty cool that we have a casino.

I agree with Matt.

Matt: You kinda made my point, this is Toledo- so why should I expect the casino to reflect anything more than that? That is the issue. The casino should be an upgrade to what we are used to here. As for 5/3 Field- the stadium is very nice, the food is the usual, but it is very nice, family fun. Same goes for the Huntington.
The issue I have is spending that kind of money for less than good food is ridiculous. I would like to think that because it was a Sunday, it might have not been their "A" game, but, at the same time, is that really an excuse?
The casino- all casinos- are built and run in such a way that they take you away from the every day. To encompass you in the thrill of the games, the experience, etc. That is what they are supposed to do best. Our casino just falls way short of that.

It would seem to me--at least judging by the crowds--that weekends are precisely the right time to bring your "A" game if you run a casino.

why go to a restaurant that doesn't bring their A game every night?
