Churchill's Location - What's on your Wish List?

The Blade story today confirmed that the Churchill's location on Cheltenham and Central is up for sale.

Question for TT'ers: Since that location offers a pretty unique specialty food merchandise location what would anyone here like to see there that would compliment what is in the area?

I used to shop there just to buy one or two items. I knew a man that worked there years ago who told me the store was built in 1948.
I can believe that; the front door is the old style 2-inch thick hardwood.

El (fill in the blank crap Mexican restaurant) will probably buy it and turn into another one of their choke and pukes that seem to do so well in Toledo.

Does this mean the end for that Churchill's?

Not familiar with the area, but if another similar type store was to take over I'd vote for Andersons.

... Trader Joes?

INeedCoffee, it really isn't that kind of space, plus there's already an Andersons a couple of miles from that location. It's more a Fresh Market kind of space, but it's about a mile-ish from the existing Fresh Market.

The Trader Joe's folks made pretty clear earlier this year that they have no intention of opening a Toledo store. Unfortunately.

... Yet whenever I go to Trader Joes in Ann Arbor/Detroit burbs or Cleveland-area and say "I wish you'd build one in Toledo", every time the checker says s/he hears that waaaaay too much.

^^thats because she is hearing it from the people that will travel to Ann Arbor to shop at Trader Joes. The majority of Toledoans would rather shop at Walmart/Kroger.

There's a Facebook group dedicated to the notion of a Toledo Trader Joe's, too. But when the company crunches the numbers and compares the formula for success with what Toledo supposedly offers, it takes Toledo off the table.

I would LOVE to have a TJ here. With our work schedules, my crappy health and all the stuff we have to do around the house, it's rare that we make it to A2 these days. Next time we go, I want to pick up a bunch of "Two Buck Chuck".

The formula probably spits out something that is close to negative infinity.

I'd like to see a Trader Joe's as well, but what I'd like even more is to interview Trader Joe's marketing and site selection departments just to see what they have to say about Toledo.

Ok, I know that I am going to regret asking, but... What is so special about Trader Joes? Why are people traveling to shop there? I am not being sarcastic, I really want to know. Am I missing something? Is it better than a Whole Foods?

High-end quality at low-end prices, for the most part. Great cheeses, vinegars, olive oils and wines at low prices. Excellent prepared foods at amazing prices, especially in the frozen aisle. Some unusual things you won't find elsewhere, and bought directly from producers to keep the prices low.

I've heard that you can find some of the same stuff at Aldi, as they're connected to Aldi, but I have a hard time shopping there. There's something in the air that shuts down my breathing (mold? bug spray?) plus I find the place depressing. I already detest grocery shopping, and the layer of despair makes it a no-go place for me.
