Buckeye Express Mail Problem

The conversion started today for the Buckeye Express email system.

I know there are going to be glitches and I experienced one right away.

Got in with no problem but found out that my "sent mail" files are all gone. Tried calling and can't get through - am guessing that they have been flooded with complaints and people needing help.

I'm just hoping that this file loss is temporary.

I have been in South America for a couple of days...I have no e-mail svc. Is there something I should have done last week....

posted by max on Jul 16, 2012 at 05:28:01 pm     #

max you can do it today if it is buckeye - go to the site - you have to log in with your full email address (i.e. "johndoe@bex.net, instead of just johndoe like we have been doing up until now)

I just checked mine, got in ok but all my saved addresses and settings were gone. Luckily I copied everything last week. Buckeye said this is supposed to be a better system, so we'll see.

I just chatted with buckeye online - they said the transfer was complete yet and that nothing should be lost. Hopefully it'll just take a little time for it to be completed.

I tried again and now the sign in screen is not coming up. Guess we just have to give it some time for this to be worked out.

I never even realized I had Buckeye email until it warned me 5 times in one day that the system would be going through an update.

lynn, go to the cablesystem site and go into express mail from that link. My old "favorite" button set for buckeye just goes to a blank page too. You'll have to reset it on your favorites again and get rid of the old one.

Buckeye said this is supposed to be a better system...

Did you believe them?

If the email system worked, why improve it? It's not as though we have ten or twenty ISPs to choose from, and if the rates go up people are going to complain and then pay the higher rate. Why fix the money machine if it's already working?

posted by madjack on Jul 16, 2012 at 07:48:07 pm     #

shamrock44,

Thanks for the tip but that didn't work for me either. I'll try a few more times, if it doesn't straighten out I'll probably give them a call tomorrow.

I thought the old system worked ok,
I just hope rates don't go because of this new one.

I sign on via the webpage and that is down. I have tried calling buckeye and get a fast busy signal. My neighbor wants to add HBO to her cable and has had the same result with buckeyes cable phone lines-that's AWFUL customer service. I am so fed up with buckeye that the day UVerse is available in my neighborhood I am switching. I get so tired of these buckeye commercials bashing AT&T and then a neighbor can't even talk to a rep to have HBO added.

My firms has it's own domain but it is through Buckeye. A girl working in the office late just called and told me our firms email is down as well:( And the line for commercial customers is also giving her a fast busy signal.

I switched to gmail and yahoo mail years ago. I have no interest in being tied to an ISP for email.

posted by SensorG on Jul 16, 2012 at 08:13:08 pm     #

I just checked the mail website and it is up, but you have to enter your name and @BEX.net ( or @buckeye-express.com). Prior to this all you had to enter was you Email name and not @BEX.net or @buckeye-express.com. I check my mail through Outlook and I had to edit the properties to include the "@bex.net"

SensorG is exactly right. Getting email from a free provider is the way to go. I've switched isp's numerous times and keep the same email address.

@sensor None of the people in our office like buckeye and neither does our IT consultant. But our managing partneris very big into "buying local" It as only a few years ago that we ditched TOL in favor of DTW for our air travel.

Buying local is fine in some cases. If you are in Toledo buying local doesn't make sense for internet or for air travel.

I wouldn't count on it. Buckeye does not overpay their IT employees, and a change like this one is bound to produce a few glitches.

Not sure what Buckeye was trying to accomplish with this upgrade but, so far, I find it clunky and cumbersome as well as being dreadfully slow.

Out of curiosity, why not just use a web based email like gmail?

posted by upso on Jul 17, 2012 at 09:24:18 am     #

For one, security and privacy. While Hotmail, gmail, etc. are "free" to the end user, your data is mined and sold. I'm sure there are ISP's out there who do the same thing but, to my knowledge, Buckeye does not.

And Buckeye mail is included with Buckeye Express.

Yeah, I keep one of each account. I'm trying to stay aware of the data mining and other stuff that is the true price of "free" services.

Sometimes in my web searching I'll put in random phrases that are unlike anything I usually look up (such as, "calories in spaghetti" or "rubber content in rubber bands" or "Moscow beer" just to see the tailored advertisements that begin to appear on my favorite sites. :/

You only need to type in your full email address as your username if you are using an email client or a smart phone. If you go to http://mail.bex.net and use a modern browser, type in your username and tab down to the password field or even click in the password field, it will automatically add the domain for you. Hosted customers were migrated last week and contacts were imported after the initial migration.

my problem seems to have worked its way out - the only thing remaining was I lost all groups in the address folder. Had to rebuild them from the address list, which thankfully remained intact.

The new system though, is PAINFULLY slow when compared to the old one. I don't know if that is becuase it is still in flux, or if that is just the way it will always be.

Whenever you load a folder, whether it is new mail, sent mail, addresses, etc - it seems to take forever. I have a fairly quick computer, so I have to think it is on their end. It's either clunky, bulky program or just still need to be tweeked. Any thoughts from other users who have tried it?

posted by shamrock44 on Jul 19, 2012 at 08:21:06 am     #

I would agree with your assumptions. I'm also hoping that Buckeye just needs to work out the kinks to improve the response time. It is painfully slow and cumbersome.

If this ends up being their "new and improved" e-mail product, they can keep it.

Can anyone tell me the name of the e-mail server I should be using to check for my "accesstoledo" email account? We are not high-speed customers, so we don't have an account in the "bex" zone. I haven't been able to get through to Buckeye for help :-(

The live chat feature timed out ... the phone recording says to call at another time ...

Anyway, I just need the address of the "incoming mail server." The one they just gave me, mail.bex.net, is not working for me. Thanks TTers!

I find Buckeye's response to this problem ridiculous. I finally got through with web chat after 4 days. I could not remember my password. My bad.

Having the entire Buckeye system tied up for days on end tells me they never thought about customer service at all.

I ranted and raved till they gave me an "aggravation credit" to my account. Now my blood pressure can return to an acceptable level.

I got thru today after a 20 min. wait regarding my spam settings not saving. Tech tried it and he got the same result,
"Unhandled error. Contact system administrator". He said it was a system glitch, would report it and hopefully fixed soon.

Don't know what anyone else is experiencing, but Buckeye's "new and improved" webmail product still sucks.

Still dreadfully slow, unresponsive half the time, mark messages for deletion, hit delete and receive an error that the message doesn't exist.

Also have multiple Inbox, Deleted items folders....

I've expressed my displeasure to Buckeye and also asked for a credit on my account each month until they get it right. Why should I pay 100% of my bill when I'm not getting 100% of what I'm being charged?

They said they'd credit my account. That's very nice of them but I'd rather have a working e-mail product.

The only annoying problem I have is since the "upgrade" when I get new messages, all but maybe 1 or 2 will be marked as read. So then I hae to go by date or time to try and figure where the new stuff begins.

I just tried to sign in today and not working again. I don't care for this new change, same issues as Foodie. If it doesn't improve I'll be going to gmail. Wish they would have left well enough alone.

We have had numerous problems with Buckeye with our TV reception going back to last March. We have had dozens of repair people out to our home during this time.

I have and continue to demand they give us "aggravation Money" each month till this problem is fixed. They do but I have to call each month and do battle with them monthly.

I like using buckeye because I support local businesses whenever I can. The business I support though, should be able to provide quality service.

The change to the new email system has been rough, with very poor service. The interruptions these past few days have come at times when I need to get work done and emails out to media and groups.

How is Time Warner or AT&T? Are they dependable? As much as I hate to leave a local provider, these email disruptions are causing problems for me.

I have TW service but I dont use their email. I don't know why you guys are putting up with that crap from Buckeye, just go to Yahoo or Gmail (which I love). I had Buckeye internet from 1997 till 2010 and never used their email, never even tried it, I've had Yahoo and Gmail from day one of each with no problems ever. Why do you bother with bad service when there are so many other choices out there?

My husband was on the phone with Buckeye one more time for our line problems. I managed to get to the Internet People by cutting in on his phone conversation.

Got all the regular excuses why out but I got a month free internet in about 2 minutes ago. They do not need account number - that is a run around. Name, Address and Phone Number and they're into your account.

In prior months I have gotten everything free for one month and I refuse to pay for TV service that is unreliable and sometimes not available. So what we have watched since this past March is on the house and I also threatened to leave.

That really gets their attention and if you get high enough in the phone change they will do anything to keep you.

When my internet or email go out I realize that it isn't the end of the world, acknowledge there are capable people working on the problem and wait it out. I don't jam the phone lines and I certainly don't ask for a month's worth of credit for an inconvenience lasting a day or so. It's people like Jackie, who think they are getting something for free, who push that cost of onto the rest of us.

Jackie (or anyone) pays for a service, if the company doesn't provide the service or at the level they promised, why should she (or anyone) have to pay. If Jackie didn't hold up her end the contract (didn't pay) is it in ok for the company to stop providing service?

Anybody has the right to ask for an appropriate credit for the disruption of any service -- utilities, transportation, restaurants, etc. There is a difference between an appropriate credit and claiming to get free TV month after month. The fact that she is bragging about receiving free TV since March seems a bit dramatic to me. And, as a paying customer, makes me a bit angry.

If you had little or no service for your TV reception and a fight goes on between Buckeye and the phone company over who should pay for the fix you are telling me you would continue to pay regular rates? We pay good money for our VIP service and expect them all to work.

Buckeye is a service company and that is what they are supposed to provide. 24/7.

I am not bragging at all. I am just an unhappy customer who wants her TV reception fixed. If someone is willing to pay for service they do not receive so be it. I am not that person.

posted by jackie on Sep 11, 2012 at 12:07:25 pm     #

If I had little or no service for my TV, I would contact Buckeye and schedule a free service call and continue to do so for a reasonable amount of time until the issue was resolved. Of course I would expect an appropriate credit for any outages I may experience. I would not remain dissatisfied for 5 or 6 months and continue to demand outrageous credit. Personally, it's more important to me to get a quality service as opposed to a free poor-quality service. If my provider wasn't providing that quality service I would go elsewhere, not just threaten to go elsewhere to try to get more credit. Sounds to me like you may be getting what you're paying for.

posted by pnjperr on Sep 11, 2012 at 12:54:18 pm     #

We have had an open ticket at Buckeye for 6 months. So do many of our neighbors. My credit requests are not outrageous at all and in line with everyone else living along this street.

Before you take me to the wood shed you should really know all the facts. End of story.
