Good old fashion book burning.

Looks like Clear Channel’s WMMS out of Cleveland had a good old fashion book burning.
http://www.toledonewsnow.com/story/19059884/50-shades-of-grey-a-real-page-burner

Did they run out of Dixie Chick cds?

Radio personality from the Alan Cox Show on WMMS say the book is bad for marriages and particularly bad for men.

"They cannot live up to this book. It is becoming an issue where they're more interested in his, and the guys just going to bed alone," said Chad.

His wife would rather read a book than have sex with him, so the book must be burned!. Very sad...

My wife read the Grey series months ago and said it was pretty tame, but maybe we set the bar a bit different than most.

In the end only about a half dozen copies of Fifty Shades of Grey were destroyed, plus one Nook. Turns out the event did more to promote the book than suppress it.

Some idiot downloaded 50 Shades onto their nook and then burned it? Too funny…

Yeah, this just isn't fair to men! This book should be outlawed, because it creates an image that I can't live up to! How can good, decent American families expect to live happy lives if women are constantly comparing their mates to fictional characters with absurdly unattainable qualities?! Anyway, I better go, Baywatch reruns are on.

Must be careful reading TT at work...I almost laughed out loud at the thought of that!

Honestly, most of my friends who read the book found that it benefitted their husbands. (Makes sense...if she gets in the mood from reading a book, who's going to reap the benefits? Duh.)

I haven't and probably won't read the books.

But, my husband is looking forward to when I finally have my girls' night out to see Magic Mike. ;)

^ I went to a matinee 2 weeks ago -- it was funny to see only women in the audience. A good time was had by all. I know you'll enjoy it!

I thought WMMS was the stalwart classic rock station in Cleveland. Has that changed?

First: this is idiotic. That should go without saying.

Second: burning a $100+ Nook surpasses idiotic.

Third: Sounds like someone tried to drum up a "promotion" with a hot topic (the 50 Shades of Grey phenomenon)...and failed miserably (6 copies "burned"???). Bad promotion...unless this guy was going to change his on-air name to "Guy Montag".

Fourth...as much as I'm sure some would like to pin this on some raging conservative "Clear Channel" host, here's a tidbit from Wikipedia: Alan Cox--radio personality

Cox is known for literate stream-of-consciousness, caustic wit, left-leaning political commentary, and controversial comedy routines.

A left-leaning, caustic, controversial "comedian"? Sounds like someone wants to be Bill Maher without the intelligence to pull it off...

At first i thought SensorG was liberal but with all the Conservative people and sites he follows I must be wrong. He is definitely a Republican.

I find it ironic, they're using the same justification groups have given against pornography for men, barbies, etc since the 50's. This time around it's for woman. Hypocrites.

I'm sure it is less about offended sensibilities and more about publicity. That book seems to pop up all over these days and I don't know why. I guess I understand how women might be attracted to a romance story involving a handsome young billionaire, but less understanding how they would be attracted to one who is a controlling, emotionally empty and damaged individual who's idea of kicks is confining his submissives in a "Red Room of Pain."

Republican doesn't necessarily = conservative.

I wondered the same thing throughout high school and college...watching the hot girl(s) I really liked be completely in luuuuvvvvvv with the guys you aptly describe right here (I think minus the "Red Room of Pain", but who knows).

There aren’t too many non-conservative Republicans left these day; a few moderates, but no progressives. For the record – I’m a progressive liberal who considers himself a liberal libertarian. While I vote Democrat much of the time, I’ve voted for my fair share of Greens at the national level and Republicans at the local level…

As for what I read/listen too, I go out of my way to make sure I take it all in. I read Drudge and Huffington, Daily Kos and the Weekly Standard.

Really??

Then I wonder what the heck most of those members of congress sitting on the right side of the aisle consider themselves?

Because they sure as hell aren't conservative.

that book is so AWESOME! Simply by whispering passages of it to women in their ear makes them suddenly turn into porn-like nymphos.
It's better than the ads on the internet about how to get chicks to do whatever you want.

Seriously, threatened by a book?

I wanted to get my wife a copy of Fifty Shades of Grey but she said it had to wait till she got through the other 5 or 6 smutty books she had laying around.

If you have a good 15-20 minutes to spare, read this:
http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/340987215

It's a hilarious review of 50 Shades, complete with animated .gif files to add "flare". After you finish this one, there is a link at the bottom to take you to her review of the second book review, then another for the third book review.

I have friends who are over-the-top obsessed with this book series. Dumb. The writing is piss-poor and I can't believe the twit that wrote these is now a multi-millionaire. I feel bad for the women who are so wrapped up in this crap.

"It was like an act of hatred, like the cutting blow of a lash encircling her body: she felt his arms around her, she felt her legs pulled forward against him and her chest bent back under the pressure of his, his mouth on hers"

Oops, that was from Atlas Shrugged...

Yay!

Thanks, viola! I can't even begin to convey how eagerly I am anticipating seeing Channing Tatum's partially clad gyrations.

(The other eye candy is just an added bonus...)

If you like Mr. Tatum, don't miss "21 Jump Street." I was expecting just a teenage stoner comedy, but it was a very sensitive portrayal of how young people in early adulthood are still affected by high school experiences. It was also really funny. And you get to see CT doing cop stuff. Yay!

Bullshit. Any Republican that isn't conservative is thrown out of the party as a RINO.

They are. The problem is by their words they are fiscally conservative and by their actions they are socially conservative (at least up until they get caught cheating on their wives, usually with men). The fiscal conservatism comes in only because they defund Planned Parenthood and anything else that's an affront to social conservatism - but when it's something that their buddies in big business want, they whip out the government credit card fast.
