TT Hall of Fame - Please?

Dear JR,

We love this site. We are passionate about our TT. TT has had it's share of classic threads over the years.

Can we please have a 'Hall of Fame'? An area where the best, worst, and funnies go to be enshrined for all of us to look back and behold with wonder and awe?

Come on: http://toledotalk.com/cgi-bin/tt.pl/article/122180/18Jul2012/Dropping_unknowns_from_facebook#122347 - deserves to be in it, as do many others.

Yes, I drank the Walbridge Kool-Aid, err, I mean water. Count my vote for TT Hall of Shame

Ever read the best of Craigslist? I think if you code so that it takes like 15 folks clicking on a symbol under the post like the exlamation mark or the + sign puts it in the hall of shame that would work, for any post or comment.

That was going to be my question. How should this be implemented? Point me to sites that do something similar.

We have one example:

http://www.craigslist.org/about/best/all/

Now I'm checking to see if other sites that I visit do something similar.

Is a "Hall of Fame" the same as a bunch of people "liking" or "favoriting" a thread?

If so, view the bottom of the post that starts a thread here. You should see a "like" link. The text for this link used to read "save," and it has existed for years.

If you click on your username, you will see a link about "favorite articles." Click that to see what threads you favorited or liked or whatever the term is suppose to be. On this page, you can also unlike or unfavorite a thread.

I use the like/save/favorite feature to bookmark threads for future reference.

Would the "Hall of Fame" simply be a list of the most liked threads, similar to what MetaFilter does? Can the existing "like" feature mentioned above work now, or do you envision something else?

Is a "Hall of Shame" a separate function and list, or is it included with the HOF?

Linecrosser mentioned using it for comments and the post that starts a thread. Is that the intention? If so, that's fine.

Note the "flag" link for the thread post. Flagging a comment is done by clicking on the barely noticeable exclamation point to the left of the "posted by" line under a comment.

If possible, I'd like to use existing functions.

Maybe something more obvious...

'Nominate for Hall of Fame' = link..and if enough people nominate it....it goes into it? Abit like the 'like' feature?

Well could use the flag function if enough people flag it then its marked as a hall of shame post. Wouldn't have to include the whole thread but it might lose some of its meaning without the context.

I don't know if this thread ...

Who care's, guns are fun!

... qualifies for the hall of fame/shame, but that thread now has 442 comments, which makes it the all-time comment count leader in this site's nearly 10 years of existence.

holland posted the 435th comment in the above thread early this afternoon.

The old record was 434 comments, posted in a 2010 thread titled Cornerstone church. But that thread was continued in another thread titled Cornerstone Church thread part 2 that contains 180 comments.

Interesting that 40 percent of the most-commented threads deal with the various smoking bans.

Is this a little more obvious? At the thread level, a link to flag and nominate for the hall of shame, and a link to "Like" and nominate for the hall of fame.

You can see the change by following the instructions in this post: New look for ToledoTalk.com.

Back in July, I said about Toledo Talk:

The site works fine on my tablet. It functions decent enough on smart phones, at least for reading the website. So at the moment, I don't see a need to create a mobile version of Toledo Talk.

I now disagree with the above statement.

I just hope I never make either list.
