Why is it that I go to the site and they have news stories from June 7th on it? They are a news agency yes?

Do you prefer news from the outlying areas, Molsonator? The links you provided are from the Bowling Green and Fremont editions. Everything on the WTOl main page is new material.

OK, I see this now, under the "community news" section. I never scroll down farther than the right-hand sidebar of top stories, mostly because that site is so ad-laden.

Just below the fold is "Community News" which you need to scroll past to get to more news. Apparently they stopped updating this in June.

Coincidentally I went to the WTOL website yesterday for the first time in a very long time. I had heard a commercial for a cancer survivor center at Hickman that was accessible by clicking the link on their site; since I am (Yay! Go me!) I wanted to look at it. Wow that's a lot of Ad space! Not the one I was looking for but just about everything else.
They should really rethink their design choices.
They just updated their community page (looks nice guys). The must check out TT like the blade does.

Another issue - This morning they are leading with an alligator story from Wisconsin? What? That is local news? Who cares?
Nothing local to report on?

They should leave the infotainment biz to the pros, such as Fark and Reddit.

They should leave the infotainment biz to the pros, such as Fark and Reddit.
Fark isn't infotainment. You're thinking of complete and utter shit like the Gawker Media sites which bury a link to the original story after a few paragraphs written by someone who read the original story after partaking of, let's call it "chemical supplements", while under orders to get as many clicks onto Gawker sites as possible to display as many ads as possible. And if they can't find enough actual stories, then they troll Reddit, Digg, and Fark for something, post some pictures, or gin up some infographics. Failing all that, someone posts some "editorial"-type content or musings or a Top # list. Or try TMZ, Uproxx, etc.
I'm not much on Reddit but it's similar to Fark. Both are user-submitted news links with a pretty vibrant user base commenting on the stories.
Of course, if you want real infotainment, tune in Fox News Channel or The Daily Show. Hell, News Corp (FOX/Fox News) won the right to lie on air legally in court. Bill O'Reilly's show is NOT CONSIDERED NEWS PROGRAMMING BY NEWS CORP, but they don't go out of their way to make anyone aware of that (note that "Fox argues that its news hours — 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on weekdays — are objective." and that Bill O'Reilly comes on starting at 8pm, Hannity at 9, and that Fox and Friends runs 6a-9a. Yeah, I can bash MSNBC or whatever they call themselves these days in a similar way... try this for a start.

I didn't imply all infotainment was bad. It's bad when it's done by so-called news orgs. But it's great when it comes from Fark. And yes, Fark is informative entertainment, but it's not called infotainment. It's called "Fark."
For more on the subject, read the book written by the creator of Fark.com.

Read the book (years back).
Yes, Fark is not news, but calling it entertainment isn't quite right either. Given the state of so-called "entertainment" these days, calling Fark entertainment is a slander of Fark. My apologies if I'm a bit passionate about this, but Fark's called out a lot of bullshit that passes for "journalism" and "infotainment".

Now they have a sidebar adds (by Zinc) that slide onto the screen. More is better. Keep adding those ads. The site is awesome.

So . . . the woman was home at the time, the flames were contained to one room, the fire is not suspicious, and a cat is dead.
There is an obvious conclusion to be made here.

"There is an obvious conclusion to be made here."
Not yet. We have to wait for the autopsy to be performed on the cat. The feline's toxicology report may show the cat was a boozer and a toker and may have contributed to the fire.
The angry birds, however, are cruelly celebrating the cat's demise on Twitter. Once again, the Internet shows its ugly side.
Obviously, this is a developing story.

I am hoping no one sneaks a picture of the dead cat from the animal morgue.

I suspect that the cat was murdered 9 times and then the fire was set as a cover up. Don't be surprised if catnip was used as an accelerant.

Look for someone with a prior feliney conviction.

I can't believe there is a commercial before the cat juggling video. I can only imagine the demo they are going for.
In all seriousness - the loss of life is a CATastrophy.

I just hope they send some poor reporter out in the rain to the front lawn of this house to do an "on scene" update report for the 6 o'clock news.
The biggest question here is, "Is this a cat on cat crime or another sad case of feline cleansing?"
