I'm SO glad they are renovating that building. It's an absolute treasure.

cannot... tell... tone... of SensorG's post...

Anyway, I'm really excited about this. I hope they focus more on ecosystems than individual species. It's a lot more interesting having an entire hallway as the window to a giant tank filled with 30 different species than walking buy what was essentially a large collection of fish tanks. (Not that I'm being critical of the current setup, that's just how we did things when the building was built.)

Is "PCA" anything like "WPA?"

I'm positive Sensor meant WPA.

Any basic plans or sketches out there as to what the remodeled aquarium will look like?

oht, I've been trying to find info on it, without much success. The single sentence in that link at the top that mentions the wall-to-ceiling tanks and the total revamp inside the footprint itself is pretty much sums up the extent of what I've been able to find out about it.

oops correct - the WPA

PCA was a different program at the time the function like today's "Federal Stimulus" bill that was passed a few years ago.

I'm a big fan of the building. I'm a big fan of the WPA.

Look at the lasting structures they build back in the day at the Zoo (The 5000 seat amphitheater and five other buildings), notable Metropark Upgrades (shelter houses and dams at Oak Opening; the two lakes were dug at Pearson Park; shelter and bath house at Providence Park; fixed the stone locks at Sidecut ), Camp Miakonda (the lake), Glass Bowl and Scott Hall, both at the University of Toledo, Ottawa Park Amphitheater…

All well done projects that have lasted nearly 100 years and will last 100 more.

There are a number of WPA buildings on the Michigan State campus.

My grandpa helped build several of them. When I went to MSU, I thought of him every time I walked through the north campus (where most of the historic, older buildings are).

Oh great, another levy on the way I'm sure. To save the baby fish.

Two and a half years to complete? Union workers?

exactly. Work would have been done earlier, but everytime one of them did something wrong, they were put on paid leave for a couple weeks.
