Disposing of Old Propane BBQ Tanks

While cleaning out the shed, I came across two empty tanks that are old. They do not have the new safety features. Where is the proper place to dispose these tanks ? Will the garbage company take them ? I thought of putting them by the curb and maybe the scrappers would get them tonight.

I'm pretty sure you can exchange them for new, full ones. I took an old one in about a year ago to exchange at the gas station and they didn't even look at it. Of course, if you don't need spares my idea isn't going to help.

I think it's an automated exchange at Home Depot. No human is required.

I have a new tank with my grill, just looking to dispose of properly. I guess I will take them to an exchange place and leave them.

I think that I left mine at Blueflame on Sylvania when I found out that it couldn't be filled back when the OPD style came along. Been awhile. Maybe them or one of the places that fill them, like A and E Rental on Byrne.

Put them at the curb last night. They were still there when I got the newspaper this morning. Decided to load them in the car when I left for work........but they were gone when I left. Case Closed.
