Our company recently moved downtown, and we've been having a blast trying all the amazing locally-owned places around us.
Jominic's opened up to rave reviews around the office. KILLER canoli, great homemade sauce and olives.
Pam's Corner is fresh and awesome. Quiche!!!
Quimby's was a pretty good bar-food-lunch spot. Nothing special, really, but it was quiet and quick.
Grumpy's? Wow. Walked down with a couple of coworkers with the intention of beating the rush. 11:40 should be early enough, right? Nope. We wound up sitting at the food bar, which actually worked out nicely for us. Very fast service, VERY fast food times despite a slammed-looking kitchen staff, and my "sawbuck" sandwich? SO good. Perfect meat ratio, great mustard and bread. To top it off, the guy behind the counter gave us free cookies when we cashed out because it was our first time. I have a feeling it's going to be a spot we hit pretty often.
Debating our spots for next week. None of us want to break the bank, so I think the plan is to get a group together for 2 lunches. What's next?
What is this Jominic's you speak of? I'm always looking for another downtown option.
Jominic's just opened a few days ago. It's on the same black as Ranya's and Weekdays.
And now this thread has me starving.
How is Ranya's? I haven't been yet.
ranya's is terrific! try their lentil soup, it's the best in the city. i'm fond of their tuna sandwich and spinach pie as well.
also, for the record, i'm the guy that gave you your cookie thank you very much! :)
I never got a free cookie for my first visit... then again, that was 2001, and I don't think you were running the joint then.
no, my grandfather would have never given anyone a free cookie. he was a real piece of work. :)
Aha! I'll be sure to say hi next time. Thanks for the cookie! Dig the place, keep it up. What's your absolute, 100% can't miss favorite on the menu for my next time?
oh and: spinach pie and lentil soup. win. definitely hitting ranya's early in the week.
Endcycle, our burgers are some of the best in town. I'd also recommend either the Larry or mikey chicken sandwich. Also the garbage salad is our number one selling item, if you're a salad guy!
Ranyas is great!
We often pick it up for lunch!
Also another place I enjoy downtown is the Triple A Cafe in the 5/3 building by the river.
Nice variety of food!
Grumpys is good but I usually end up spending 15 bucks on lunch so I can't do that too often:-)
I finally branched out and tried something other than the garbage salad at Grumpy's. Now I can also add an enthusiastic recommendation for the house salad as well. :)
P.S. upso, I couldn't help but giggle a little that Andrew Z was also dining at Grumpy's that day, considering how often he is debated here on TT. LOL
yeah! i was caught off guard by that as well!
i believe it was his first time in, and certainly the first time i've seen him in person!
The wife works downtown, I think one week she ate grumpy's 4 days in a row.....some lunch meetings every day and whoever organized just kept ordering grumpys. I've never eaten there but she absolutely loves the place.
not sure how legit this is, but I just noticed this on yelp.com
