The supercilious anti-DUI campaign

Evidently, the multi million dollar DUI tv and radio campaign have been a huge success. Wonderful. We are now all much much much safer. Congrats to all. Let's have a beer. Oh wait.....maybe the decline in alcohol related deaths is attributable to something else?

So what is it? Do we throw more money at more advertising campaigns for other societal behavior issues? Or do we scrap the idea of big dollars and a massive media campaign because it really doesn't work?

When can we expect to see the same browbeating messages directed issues such as pedophilia, child abuse, and domestic violence? OR are these behaviors not as threatening to our well being?

No I don't think drinking and driving is ok. No I don't agree with .08 BAC defining being being impaired. Yes, I think DUI enforcement is a just a big money maker and is driving enforcement priorities and how money gets spent.

I guess I hate the indirect message I get from these adds that DUIs are the single worse behavior issue we have as a society.

I've never really felt like the PSAs are telling us a DUI is the single worst behavior we have as a society, I think it's a way of reminding people to be responsible.

It's different than the other issues you mentioned, because those aren't acceptable, everyday situations. I think, with few exceptions, just about everybody goes out and has a few drinks with friends to some degree of regularity. It's a normal part of life, and it's perfectly ok. The commercials are just a reminder that, when you do that, you better either a) not overdo it, or b) have a sober friend handle the driving.

And also unlike the other things, driving drunk is a biproduct, and the others are direct action. Nobody goes out at night to drive drunk, they go out to drink. If they have too much and get behind the wheel, then that's the issue. With the others, you are doing that direct act, and that's the issue.
