Mud Run next weekend!

Any one else doing the 5k mud run next weekend?

http://thesurvivalrace.com/toledo-oh-5k-mud-run-2012/

Pushing 40 I've started to run 5k races this year, need a reason to do all that running.

From my understanding it's like a warrior dash. What do I wear for something like this? If the weather is like this weekend, it's going to be pretty cold, but with all that mud and water it could weigh you down if I dress warm. Any ideas?

Should be a blast!

I am going! In an effort to feel better and loose some weight I also took up running this year. (kind of pushing 40 myself)

I have not kept up on my training like I would have like to for this one... So I hope it is truly like they say - for the accomplished runner to accomplished couch potato.

What to wear? I am thinking nothing too loose. And old tennis shoes. They have pictures of other races on their website and on the facebook page.

huh... Interesting - my email only went to "prizes". The rest of the information you have posted here is quite useful! I saw some pictures of the "shower station" form other races - which consisted of a fire hose. All and all - it should be an interesting event!

How'd the race go for you SJD? I had a ton of fun. I thought the course was going to be harder. I finished in the top 25% and probably could have finished a bit better if I hadn't stuck with my friends I was running with but that was half the fun.

The live band and Black Swamp beer tent were a great addition.

Nice finish! I think they ran out of ideas in the course. The sand hill thing got old.
I didn't do as well as I would have liked. My knee pain came back and slowed me down. But, I finished and didn't skip any obstacles!

I agree about the band and the Brew. The site was interesting, it seemed like this was in the guys backyard?

Would you do it again? I think I would - with the right people.

I'd do it again. What was the final number of runners? I'm guessing 4,000 or so. They haven't released the final numbers yet. I wonder how much money they made in the end.

4000 people at $50-$60 a pop is a nice chunk of change, plus $10 for parking. If he can do this every year and just add a new obstacle or two, I’m guessing he could turn this into a real money maker.

From what I can see on the final race times - 1858 participants. Figure each one has at least 1 spectator per runner. That's a good crowd. Heck - he covered his cost just in parking alone! I used a coupon from living social - only paid $25. But still, Yes, it could be quite an event. Would have liked to see more vendors though.

Were you there early or later? We were out of there by 12:30 or so. Am curious how it was later in the day.

I think it was a success being the first year and all.

The Warrior Dash is way better... It usually is a couple hour drive from NW Ohio, but well worth it.

So you didn't like the race? I thought this was a great event for NW Ohio and they did a good job considering it was their first time hosting.

I think in a year or two, this could become a premium Toledo event that doesn't take a 2 hour drive to get to.

If you don't mind me asking Sensor, how did you become aware of the event? I'm guessing it probably didn't have the publicity of a Warrior Dash or Tough Mudder, but was just curious because I had only become aware of it when you made the initial post. Would have absolutely taken part if I had known about it earlier.

I heard about it from a couple of friends and I'm not sure where they found out about it. I was thinking 4k people but it looks like it was under 3K. Not too bad though.

It looked like Dave's Running Shop had a strong presences there. I'm guessing they were pushing it.

Check out the pics... they missed a lot of obstacles with the pics, but you get an idea.

I'm glad it turned out okay. My sister enjoyed it. She did Warrior Dash this year, as well, and has been pushing me to do one of these. I have no interest. I'm a runner and I'll be doing the Detroit Marathon in a couple of weeks, but there's something really unappealing to me about running & crawling through mud, even if it's only a short 5K.

What great shots!
But omg... I run like a girl. I have GOT to work on my form.

I have talked to a few people - we have a theory that something was in that mud. Normal mud just doesn't stick like that. :-)

Someone asked above - I heard about this race thru Living Social, where I bought my discounted entry fee.

I agree about the mud, something was up with it. It made for some great pics and washed off easy enough. Bonus - it didn't cause my hair to fall out, but if I grow an extra toe, I’ll know who to blame.
