I love Valentine's! I met her several years ago at a networking event and she does great work. It's worth the trip downtown.

I recommend valentines as well
Just fixed a jacket for my wife
Awada Tailors at the Salvage Bldg across from the mall. He's really good and pretty darn entertaining!

The guy on Secor in the plaza where Savers and Allied Record Exchange does a pretty good job. Hemming a pair of pants isn't rocket science, but the tailors in the mall managed to do a poor job last time I took some pants in.
Ace_Face refers to Kayvon Tailoring; excellent work, fair prices, but you may have to wait a few days or a week on work. The owner is a one-man shop, and he takes a great deal of pride in his work. He also sells high quality custom suits and rents tuxedos:

Wait - I think Ace_Face meant someone else, but I give kudos to Kayvon anyways.

HM - Kayvon - is that sort of between Fam Video and what was Pat and Dandy's bar?
Yes, that is the place, Billy.

My wife uses Ali Awada as well....he does excellent work, and is a very nice guy. I know this because I'm always the one stuck going to pick up and pay!

The place I was talking about was Alterations and More, which is off Executive Parkway.
I may have to check in on that Kayvon guy. There aren't too many tailors I would trust in Toledo to do more than hem a pair of pants. Things like slimming or letting out a suit jacket takes someone who does it a lot for it to be done correctly. Even the guy at Neil's does only an average job when it comes to those things. And he's expensive and slow.
Twin Oaks Cleaners has done some repair/hemming for me along the way.....very reasonable and fair.

On a related note......the little old lady down the street types that used to take care of tailoring, mending, etc are fading from view.. Kinda sad. The one I used to go to...I think all she really wanted was for me to sit and watch Jeopardy with her. She'd charge about $3 then try to keep me from leaving.
Now a days it's hard to finds anyone with these kinda skills. Most of the professional outfits want an arm and a leg, and take forever to turnaround.

OK, I went to Awada because it was close to home. Probably wont be going back. He did a good enough job, but as someone pointed out above, putting a hem in a pair of pants isnt rocket science, and $20 bucks a pop is way too much. I guess I'll try the lady down town next time.
fyi - it was Three pairs of pants for $60 total. the lady at the mens store I bought them at said his price was 12.50 for one pair with a discount for multiple. Not happy. I did go bk to the mens store and let her know that her recommendations werent correct so going forward she'd have the right info.
$20 a pair is high if the pants had cuffs. Without cuffs, $20 is a total rip-off.
it would fall into the total ripoff category then - no cuffs. two pair of chino type pants for work, and one pair of jeans. $20 ea. Dont go to Awadas.
If other people go there and get other rates then that's even worse if he charges different prices for the same service for different people.
Stopped in at Kayvon's today to get some sleeves on a jacket of mine altered. Kayvon has all the hallmarks of a good tailor: crappy location, argues with you about what you ask for and is hard to understand. But it is clear he knows what he is doing, so we'll see how things come out next Wednesday.
^^ Ha! Yes, he is very old school and Old World, AceFace. I had an idea that I wanted a button for some khakis moved over to the left 1/4 inch or so (yes, I could lose the 2-3 pounds that made the pants snug at the waist and thus contributed to the exploding button, but bear with me here). Mr. Afshar (the owner) refused to do this, explaining that this would be an excercise in futility, and that I was better off letting out the seams a bit.
At least he did not say that my overweight arse needed to chuck a few pounds.
He also scoffed once when I wanted an extra button and button hole added at the bottom of a dress shirt: "You will ruin the shirt." Instead, he suggested seam adjustments, thereby lengthening the shirt a little and making it less prone to slide out from my trousers.
He was right, of course, and while his manner was somewhat gruff, I had to respect what he does, which is first-rate tailoring. Doing business with Mr. Afshar is like stepping back in time to the 1940s.
