Toledo Talk

Blade supports EVERY levy

This morning they came out in support of the TPS levy, that makes it a clean sweep; they support 6 out of 6 tax increases.

It's okay to vote against all the property tax levies because we're flushed with money from the new casino and the traffic enforcement cameras. Toledo government can share it's casino-camera revenue with the orgs that are funded by county-wide levies because it's the right thing to do.

I regularly read the free online TB version.

A TB political endorsement has never changed how I've voted. The political class is powerful and with these endorsements, TB is choosing to walk in-step with those folks.

Not only is stealing more money from property owners and businesses the wrong thing to do during a economic slump, it's the exact opposite of what should be happening to slow the collapse. Of course TB doesn't recognize this for it's own business model has chosen a similar route...raising prices while sales are decreasing; and ironically wondering why demand fell further.

However, time will prove that it will be a bad business decision to piss off the people who are being ripped off by the extra taxes from these levies. Jim, if you are one of the 50 people in Toledo still buying TB, to voice your disgust, quit buying it.

Newspapers are dying and more people than ever are getting their political ideas from independent sources such as Toledo Talk. Unfortunately, there still are people who vote how TB suggests.

It's time to withhold $ from organizations such as United Way, since they also seem all-too-eager to endorse levies. For United Way to endorse levies is an obvious conflict of interest, but they continue getting away with the practice.

Jim, if you live in Toledo, there will be 7 levy issues on your ballot.

Maybe TB forgot to endorse one, but they still have a few weeks to discover the lax oversight.

You know... a newspaper levy is in our future at some point.
Whenever the business plan of what SHOULD be a private operation fails....poof. Levy.

Sorry, I thought only 6. They endorsed:

10/1: Children's Services
10/2: Library
10/5: LC Mental Health
10/9: Imagination Station
10/11: Metro Parks
10/14: TPS

I missed the Parks and Recreation levy. It appears as though they have not yet recommended this one. They also instructed Sylvanians to stay with Tarta on 10/10.

I live in Monclova and we will have 7 on my ballot. Even though I don't have flattering things to say about the Blade, I can't resist reading a morning paper that has local news stories. I couldn't get used to reading it on-line.

6th If anyone gets their political ideas from this site we're all doomed.

Yes newspapers are dead, now I'm going to read the blades website so I can post an article to Toledo talk so we have something to talk about.

You know what probably annoys me most with the blade? The fact they waste time, money, and trees every Sunday throwing the Sunday ads or whatever they are to EVERY house in my neighborhood. It would be different if they took the time to put them on a porch but they just throw them in the very end of the driveways as they drive by. Then they just sit there for days until we get wind and they blow around in the neighborhood making it look trashy because people donít pick them up! I literally every Sunday walk out and pick my copy up and our neighbors to the left and right and throw them right into the recycling container because if I donít they wonít and then they end up blowing around! Makes me so annoyed every Sunday morning!

I'm sure the people who spend the money to put those advertisements IN the paper would be thrilled to hear this testimonial...

They shouldn't have to hear it...they should be able to SEE it, because it is the same way in my neighborhood and probably many others. Fairly often I see those bags in the middle of busy streets, completely flat from being run over repeatedly.

I'm sorry but it just looks trashy. If you drive through where I live you will sometimes see one, two and possibly three of them sitting in one's driveway. The people are home because you can tell by how the papers been flattened by a car pulling in and out of the driveways. It just seems like a waste to me.

I wish we would get them in our neighborhood. We always look at them that are included in the Blade.

Too true.

What sucks about these things (and the "stick a flyer in your door" types of marketing is that if you have a job like mine, you travel a bit...sometimes unexpectedly. And sometimes I come home from just an overnight trip and see two flyers sticking in my door....which to me is just a big, flashing flag to any criminal that says "HEY, NOBODY'S HOME!".

I have my neighbor come over and clear the decks when I'm gone longer, but even so, she can't be on vigil 18 hours a day.

I'd actually like to get the Sunday ads as well.

In our neighborhood the Free Press is delivered to every house. The majority of those sit at the end of peoples driveways in exactly the same way you described stooks. Many of my neighbors don't bother to pick them up until there are 2 or 3 of them piled up and soaked through.

We're home every night and the fliers still pile on the front door because we never us the front door. We come and go through the attached garage.

When you require only the best bird cage liner, only the blade will do.

Maybe it is the free press and not the blade? I just assumed it was the blade because everyone is always complaining about it. Whatever it is it's a waste of time. lol

Despite the Blade's levy endorsements, I managed to push the "Against the Levy" button every chance that was presented to me via the voting screen.

2012 Election Results

Oh darn, the city parks levy failed. So did Imagination Station. Where o where will the children go to play in the water during the summer now? Or have field trips in the winter?

Glad the Metroparks passed, though.

<hands wringing...tearing up....so worried>

Wouldn't it be theoretically possible that the Imagination Station result could change by the time all the provisional & absentee votes are validated?

Since the window of defeat was so small - maybe 1,000 or so total votes. Anyone know how many absentee and provisional ballots are still waiting to be added to the totals?

(I'm not saying that I think it is likely - just that it may be theoretically possible.)

Anything's possible. We thought we voted down COSI enough times to kill it, but no.
