I'm sure Chrysler Corp will have Jeep stick around if the city guarantees Imagination Station remains open, along with maintaining top-notch libraries and city parks.

Look for this very relevant news story to be picked up and researched by The Blade on November 7th.

Mixed feelings personally which I will post later.

Thank God we bailed out the auto industry to protect American jobs and avoid having them being shipped overseas

All they did was polish a few turds for the short-term.

Now the turds are going to be flushed regardless what Obama, Romney, or unions have to say about it.

Google is a wonderful tool sometimes:

Jeeps have been sold off and on in China since 1985. Fiat is looking to bring Jeep back to the Chinese market, hence, build them in China. Fiat may eventually build all their models in China for the Chinese market. Fiat is spending millions of dollars at the Stickney plant right now.

Does the Examiner's story make any sense?

Well, hopefully all of this turns out to be rumor, current Toledo Jeep production remains, and Toledo doesn't become a Flint, Michigan look-alike.

I plugged my nose and bought a Jeep in August 2009 and the only problem to date @ 58k miles has been a switch with the power roof that needed to be reset.

The auto bailout is being hailed as some sort of miracle. Which of course is political and union bullshit. Since, what it did was steal money from successful businesses and hand it to businesses that put themselves deeply in red ink from their own poor decisions.

Bloomberg a "wing nut web site"?? Don't think so:

Please read the material you link:

Chrysler currently builds all Jeep SUV models at plants in Michigan, Illinois and Ohio. Manley referred to adding Jeep production sites rather than shifting output from North America to China.

This is not a difficult concept, folks, but see if you can follow: Chinese consumers are buying lots of Jeeps. Right now they have to ship them from North America. If they add production facilities in China, they will sell Jeeps cheaper to Chinese consumers. Also, consider what is not mentioned in the story: China has little in the way of emissions standards, and those North American Jeeps have lots of emissions control components that might be left out in a China-built Jeep model.

bloomberg doesn't state that jeep is leaving america for china

I do not think anyone has stated Jeep "is" leaving for China - just that it is being considered. In the Bloomberg article it states:

“The volume opportunity for us is very significant,” Manley, who is also president of the Jeep brand, said in an interview at Chrysler’s Auburn Hills, Michigan, headquarters. “We’re reviewing the opportunities within existing capacity” as well as “should we be localizing the entire Jeep portfolio or some of the Jeep portfolio.”

Did I make such a statement? I asked the question in the original post and supplied a link to the story. You read it, you decide.

As for the second link, the source of the story was Bloomberg, not the Examiner. Bloomberg is hardly a wing nut site. Again, read the report, come to your own conclusions. But don't make assumptions that I'd be happy to see Jeep leave town because I post what I believe to be an interesting story. It would devastate this area economically.

Cheap Jeeps in China won't do a lot for the brand name. If that happens , let's just hope they don;t start shipping them to the U-S. Can you say KIA.

As mentioned above, it's a return to China for Jeep.

Oct 23, 2012 - Truck Trend - Jeep Production May Return to China

Those of you with a sharp memory may remember that Jeep Cherokees were built in China starting in 1985. Since then, Jeep has gone through four corporate owners and production was ultimately phased out at the Beijing Jeep plant in favor of Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedans when the company was under Daimler management. However, local production of Jeeps for the Chinese market looks poised to begin anew under new owner Fiat, according to a Bloomberg report.

From what I got out of it was Adding no moving a production facility in China. But that could lead to moving, who knows, after they get a taste of the cheap labor over there. I dont think they would announce it to us even if they have plans like that. I think it would be a rotten shame if they didn't move production to China.

Not to flog a Dead horse, but here is this, straight from Chrysler's web site:

"Let’s set the record straight: Jeep has no intention of shifting production of its Jeep models out of North America to China. It’s simply reviewing the opportunities to return Jeep output to China for the world’s largest auto market. U.S. Jeep assembly lines will continue to stay in operation. A careful and unbiased reading of the Bloomberg take would have saved unnecessary fantasies and extravagant comments."

Do you really think they would announce moving all production or even some. Call it a conspiracy if you like AC, but I am amazed at your blind faith in a Italian car company like you seem to have faith in the democrats to tell you everything true. Are you really Chris Mathews in disguise?

OKAY WHICH OF YOU ARE IN THE PAY OF MITT ROMNEY?

Liney? Foodie? Max? 6th_floor?

Own up now please.

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2012/10/26/1150536/-DEVELOPING-Romney-tells-fake-story-to-Ohio-voters

"“I saw a story today that one of the great manufacturers in this state, Jeep — now owned by the Italians — is thinking of moving all production to China,” Romney said at a rally in Defiance, Ohio, home to a General Motors powertrain plant. "

So there's your man Romney, LYING to our fellow Northwest Ohioans... and you're backing his lie to the hilt. How much are you guys getting paid to do this sort of thing?

http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20121026/POLITICS01/210260402/1121/AUTO01/Romney--Chrysler-may-move-Jeep-production-to-China

Very very odd that all these people who claim they are not Teabaggers or Republicans are all reading the same blogs that Romney gets his misleading news from.

Also, one would normally hope that a Presidential candidate wouldn't fuck up so badly, or make such a baldfaced lie to the American people.

Either Romney is too stupid and knee-jerk reactionary to check this story before acting on it, or he's that big of a liar and that desperate to get into office that he'll tell these whoppers. Either way, is this the guy you want with the nuclear launch codes?
