The city has announced plans to build a waterpark facility that would include slides, waterfalls, and a senior area. The park is contingent on you passing Issue 5 which is an entirely new levy for city parks. This levy when announced was for the continuing maintainence of the existing parks and recreation, not for building new facilities. Building a new waterpark only adds to the cost of maintaining what we have which we can't do now, hence the levy. WTF is going on on the 22nd floor? I will simply vote no on each and every levy on the ballot. People will say that is shortsighted. I say it's shortsighted for a city with a decreasing population, and falling revenues to expect citizens to increase their own property tax by voting yes on 7 levys.

Do you have a link to any kind of source on this?
Maggie Thurber posted the press release on her blog dated October 30th (hey, that's today!).
Mayor, Council members announce plan for aquatic facilities
Funding for proposal would be contingent on passage of Issue 5
Toledo Mayor Mike Bell and members of Toledo City Council will announce a proposal for city aquatic facilities at a press conference at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 30. The proposal would include a centralized water park featuring waterfalls and slides as well as a secondary facility for senior aquatic activities, to be located at on of the city’s existing senior centers. Funding for the proposal in the capital budget would be contingent on the passage of Issue 5 on the November ballot.
I guess if you can't get a shady developer to build it at Southwyck the next best thing is to do it yourself.
Parks levy for continued maintenance? Yeah, right...

Then again I thought that Northtown Mall would be a great place for an indoor water park.

It might be better to offer city assisted memberhips to the Y's or existing private gym's with pools, with whom the taxpayer financed waterworld would compete.

:)
This pisses me off more than I can adequately articulate right now.
It's blatant pandering to the masses that won't have to foot the bill. "Hey, vote for this levy and next summer you can drop off your 6 kids at the free water park all the property owner had to buy for you!"
Take care of your own damn kids, I took care of mine when they were growing up.
Shove THIS levy, and most most of the others where the sun don't shine.
How many water parks are there in an hours drive of Toledo? Dundee, Great wolf, Kalahari, The holiday inn just south of the turnpike on Reynolds. And the city wants to add another? Mayor Bell, please resign.

The people that would use it do not typically leave Toledo.
I fully support building a waterpark over one government center. Just level the building and build the park. It'll be more fun and there will then actually be people who work there.
